It is... but we all are sometimes ^ ^
No, of course I don't listen at the same time. It's just a cross reference, DT880 for the analytical part and 2.1 for the bass feeling.
The point is to have a mix that translate well in both, especially as it's two pieces of gear with a very different listening experience.

Well I'm in the same situation as I've been abroad for years and had to sold my home studio.
I even mixed with 30€ crappy AT headphones for most of the time. In fact I've bought the DT880 only 6 months ago.
I would say that it's probably more important to know your listening system and its defaults that to spend time mixing.

Keep in mind if you're more on the composer or the engineer side though, as to use a clinical headphone to compose can be annoying sometimes...

The best trick to me is still to use reference tracks, usually in the style you like, compare with yours and try to reach the top ^ ^

i finally bought the DT 880 pro (250 ohms) for now, and i'm comparing it to the KRK KNS 8400 which i have for already 3 years for those who could be interessed by one of these headphones.

    KNS 8400:
    - cheaper (125 euros in europe, probably less in USA as usual)
    - impressive sound despite the price
    - more bass around kick frequencies. enjoyable for listening but surely not corresponding to reality. kind of V-shaped sound

    DT 880 pro:
    - comfortable as it couldn't be more (and it was my first need because KNS8400 is really giving headaches after 30-60min)
    - spacy and surround. probably because the bass is slightly lower
    - warmer sound, more presence.

i think both are good headphones for recording and sound design
the KRK is a closed-hp and so less comfortable but excellent for recording instruments. it is quite bassy, but that sound quality for 125e is enough for recording, not for mixing as i thought
the beyerdynamic is really polyvalent and suitable for all kinds of work. i still need to test its sound as it is all new, but i already see some very long ableton sessions forward.

And because it's half open, you got a better stereo image.

I got one, and work hours a day with it, no fatigue.
Even though I don't rely on it for mixing, because the very low end cant be imaged (as with any headphone)

I am preparing an article/tutorial on how to make any headphone sound better just by rewiring. It's a long one, might take few days but it'll be there! :mates:
First I need to take down that writing block of mine

What do you mean by rewiring?

95% of all headphones are connected with one common ground, the rewiring would give each driver its dedicated signal path. It's a bit of surprise :dancing:

I used to work with the DT700 Pro and the DT880 Pro. Recently I sold my DT770 Pro after I could test the Shure SH840. Although the SH840 are closed ones like the DT770 the sound super opened. I also barely use the DT880 Pro since I own the SH840. The SH840 sound less compressed to me. Less like cans. :D
