Agreed. The position of the headphones on your head makes or breaks the treble. I found a position that completely brought the treble back to life, but unfortunately that position was not very comfortable on my head. Had to return them.

that depends on:

1 - what are you planning to do with the headphones (mix? record?)

2 - whats the audio interface you're using and whats its ideal output for headphone impedance

3 - your budget

All things considered I wouldn't lost my marbles trying to choose the perfect headphone because I'm sure you don't have illimited budget and there's a bunch of good correction software out there (like Sonarworks) to further improve on your monitoring.

 

I had the hd600 before Audeze lcdx and I can tell you that the audeze are so so much better that you won’t believe until you try them…main problem for me it is how heavy they are after a while…Also I’ve tried the audio technica adx 5000 and they blew my mind,I can say they are the best cans I ever tried….2000€ though

Thinking about Aune AR5000, after initial listen with oratory eQ, theze sounds really good, well balanced cans! Now between these and MM100 from audeze

 

I have the HD6XX's and i really like them. Haven't used 'em a ton for electronic music yet but i know they're great for hip-hop! Same goes for the DT-990's, which are a nice counterpart to the HD6XX's. Really covers a lot of ground between the 2 of them, despite their many similarities

If you can't make a track that get signed on a legitimate label or go independent and build a fanbase that buys your stuff and come see you live using a DT-990 pro x and HS8's, you can't make good music and no amount of expensive gear is going to help you.

I've had them for like 7 years, they're effortless and amazing.

 

True! It's all bout to know your cans, how they lie and use references. But there is moment you realize 10+yrs you didn't upgrade, suddenly you test new gear and find things in music you didn't hear properly before. I had dt770pro for a while but highs were too much even that I like bright phones, so thinking to get something more balanced, linear.

 

I use AKG 701 since almost 20 years, I can't even remember. Recently I started using Realphones (plus Canopener) with AKG 701 profile and it's a killer combo.

The lack of bass that 701s are known for and that bit of harshness in the highmids are gone and it's now a real pleasure mixing with these cans.

My mixes already translated well because of so much time using these headphones but now, as I said, it's just a pleasure to mix (and listen to music) with these headphones.

I tried Morphit and Sonarworks too but I think Realphones it's a better match with my phones.

I bought a new one from Thomann because there was a sale and I paid it 99 Euros, normally they go 129 Euros there.

Even if they're now produced in China they sound as good as my made in Austria pair that I paid something like 260 Euros IIRC.
For the price I don't know if there's anything better but they are certainly good enough (and than some) for pro work. Soundstage is huge and they're very detailed. Great cans,recommended!

One day I want to buy a Sennheiser 490 Pro to have a different perspective but they're 4 times the price so for now I'll spend that money to improve sound treatment in my studio.

 

in the case of the NDH-30 you really don't need to know them that much, meaning that there is no need to re-calibrate your judgement.
If your hear it a certain way, then that's pretty much the way it will sound like on other systems.
I agree that as long as you can hear what you mix with a pair of cans then you can make do with any, but when it comes to mixing, the NDH-30 is definitely one step ahead, as it leaves no room for guess work.

 

The room emulation software is used for enjoyment purposes, although I am currently using an Oratory Harmon EQ curve with CanOpener. I've also added some Sennheiser HD 490 Pro which are lightweight and super comfortable.

I second the Answers from my predessors.
An EQ courve plus Can Opener is a Gamechanger.

I habe a DT 700 Pro X and couldn't work more than one hour with them.
Too harsh and less Bass. With a correct Harman Courve and Can Opener I can use them for hours now.

Also make sure they sit comfortable

 

I can't get over the fact that there are headphones out there for about the price of an kh310 monitor speaker. It feels so like a rip off.
I mean I get it, if it's the best tool for the job you pay what you got to pay... But honestly how much can the production of a fancy headphone cost? 60US? Selling it for 25 times that doesnt sit right.

 

There's a version 2 with real diamonds and gold trim, the extras cost €1,790 more, but that makes you stand out from the crowd and gives you a lot of bragging rights. I hear things like, "I bought the 64 Audio U18t - €3,300 RRP" (I expect admiration and envy from my guests). Target audience: the rich...!

My "Beyerdynamic - DT-990 Pro cost €149 - 250 ohms" and does exactly what it's supposed to.
If the customers were ripped off they weren't smart enough!
