Hahmo DSP SuperClassic, a reimagined Roland JP-8000-style Synthesizer plugin - November 25, 2025

Hahmo DSP SuperClassic is a new Synthesizer plugin that is a reimagined take on the iconic Roland JP-8000 supersaw synth from the 1990s.

Okay, I guess I was wrong when I said that Adam Szabo’s Airwave was supposed to be the last JP-8000/8080 this year. Synth heads make mistakes, too, because here is the next one.

Hahmo DSP has released SuperClassic plugin, a new Synthesizer plugin inspired by the Roland JP-8000/JP-8080. However, it’s not just another 1:1 emulation, but a new take on this classic virtual-analog synth.

SuperClassic is a new virtual-analog Synthesizer plugin inspired by the Roland JP-8000 from 1997.

If it weren’t explicitly stated, you wouldn’t realize that the de Hahmo DSP SuperClassic takes its inspiration from the JP-8000 because its UI is unique and not JP-8000-like.

At its core lies a 32-voice polyphony sound engine. According to the developers, the SIMD-optimized DSP engine allows extreme polyphony with efficient CPU usage. Calling 32 Voices’ extreme’ is a bit of an exaggeration, in my opinion.

The engine provides four SuperClassic parts, each with seven high-quality, band-limited saw oscillators. Each part gives you control over the tune/fine-tune, Superdrift mix, pan, and more.

New is the ability to adjust the famous keytracking high-pass filter of the JP-8000’s Supersaw in the oscillator section.

A highlight of the SuperClassic is its proprietary drift engine, “Superdrift“. It provides each oscillator with its own independent LFO. This allows you to modulate each oscillator’s phase separately.

These non-repeating, versatile motions that you infuse in the oscillators give them an analog-style width and warmth. With a dedicated Superdrift knob, you can also precisely dial in the amount of drift to the oscillators.

    More JP-8000 Ingrendients
From here, it goes into a JP-8000-inspired filter section. Like the original, there are six classic modes (LP12/24, BP12/24, and HP12/24) to choose from. To match them with the original settings, they also have accurate JP-8000 resonance mappings.

Additionally, you can boost the filter section by activating the oversampling option with 2x or 4x while keeping the highs clean and alias-free.

Alongside the LFO per oscillator, you also have two ADSR envelopes modeled after the JP-8000, with authentic filter response. Both offer velocity and are controllable with sliders. A full modulation matrix is not available.

Further, you can refine your sounds with a syncable tape-style delay featuring ping-pong mode, rate, feedback, and mix controls. There is also a built-in EQ in the filter section with simple bass and treble controls. Plus, you have glide and leg-to functionality.

Hahmo DSP ships SuperClassic with various presets covering leads, pads, basses, and more. Sound demos are available on the official website.

    First Impression
Hallelujah, there’s a virtual JP-8000! Just kidding. It’s another great JP-8000-inspired Synthesizer plugin. The new “reimagined” feature here is the versatile supersaw oscillator and how it’s configured.

The user interface also contributes to the fact that it doesn’t necessarily look like a typical JP. It’s beautiful and allows for fast operation. Ultimately, you’ll have to decide how many JP-8000 plugins you need in your synth arsenal.

Hahmo DSP SuperClassic is available now in a special Black Friday sale intro price for 55€ instead of 79€. It offers simple license key registration, with no third-party licensing program required.

It runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows. A demo version is available on the official website.
