Have you tried any of the Airwindows buss plugs? I like Buss Colors personally. I like to use them for "common fate"/timbral compression sort of glue, where the actually compression effect is almost nothing. Normally, I like any buss compression glue fx to be set at 1.25:1 compression ratio, or lower; because anything much more than that has already been done on the individual channels and/or subgroups. Transients, and SNR concerns having been dealt with prior to the master buss. Sometimes I'll even add a bit crusher on the lowest possible reduction setting.

    worth looking at
    Kush
depends on what you are looking for (besides ssl)
Altec/EMI is their AR1 but the Lisson Grove version with the vari.ohm dial!!!!!
UBK is their Fatso but tuned to Gregs feel for DIRT! aka warmth aka Soul!
Basically everything Gregory Scott is Gold imo

if you dont have a UAD or Acustica
    Korneff
Pawn Shop Comp 2.0 (isnt but has) aspects of Shadow Hills (should be right up your alley)
    :winker:

The Far out aka Magical & Complicated
    DDMF
Fairchild is their Magic Death Eye! Why Complicated? the D1/D2 settings is a mix of Kush and
    [IMG]
    ELysia Mpressor GR Limit controller
    [IMG]
Dynamic but Gluey in a different way.
Elysia dosnt follow anyone thats why you should look at Alpha!
Just like Flux:: Solera with its hysteresis, aka Auto-Threshold controller, do it differently!
and it is Multi-Channel comes in Multi-Band called

    Alchemist

Has everything like Alpha & Solera..............just.........mooooooore:disco:

If i were mastering a track for a client, i'd probably doing the mix too, but if i'm only doing a mastering job on a track, i'd probably ask for stems for extra control and for a better results, some of the tricks i to get good results are on mixing phase, so having the chance to apply some of them is good, but if i only get one wav file to master, i'd want 0 plugins on master channel, the less the more options i have.

funnily enough i had to google topdown mixing workflow, and it happens to be somewhat the way i mix, i always try to emulate how mixing was done in the old days, but it's not always the case it highly depends on the song, and probably my mood lol...
with the genres i mix usually it's on stereo, dual mono is usually for more dynamics music, and i don't like dynamics
that being said dual mono should only be used in a very specific scenarios...

Serial is my secret, i can have like 3 to 4 compressors in series each doing a specific task and shaping the sound a bit...

already replied to this, the less FXs applied the better, gives me more choice over the mix...

works some of time, not always, but reverbs are a crucial part in any mix, even modern "dry" mixes...

Thank you friend, i'll be adding those to the list of compressors i'm trying soon!

i appreciate each and every recommendation i got;, you guys ROCK! :mates::disco:

thanks for answering. yeah, I normally set it up stereo but recently I've tried dual mono and surprised by the result, like you said, more dynamics (lively as well) but hard to get volume without destroying the stereo image in the later stage. I tried it because I've read somewhere that all the "professional mixers" set it up dual mono. Just wondering how people are setting it up these days and maybe some tricks to get more volume without destroying the stereo image.

Suprised nobody mentioned Unisum. Really great compressor with lots of settings to tweak.
Sand 3 is also great, and The Glue is classic that still works well.

i take special care of stereo image, i try to use whatever tricks i have to get a wider bigger image, also a wider stereo image makes mixing easier, as somehow it gives elements more space to breath therefore i have to deal with less frequency masking issues...

take my words with a grain of salt, as this is my unique experience, and have always helped me, especially saturation, the Kush stuff, are plugins from heaven.

This is the whole point of this post? lol

Indeed, sometime i try to push even harder just to see how the mix stands against such abuse.

    no unfortunately.

I know it's a bit off topic, but making a hardware diy bus comp ( VCA SSL style ) is really easy. There are a number of kits out there.
Much more satisfying than any VST plugin. And really not that expensive. If you dont like that clean sound , well you can always mod it later. All you need is a bit of soldering knowledge and a bit of patience. It's rewarding and satisfying.

I really like the DMG Audio Trackcomp the 2k5 model (API 2500). The other models are very good to, like the G-Bus model.

Plugin Alliance Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor wins for me time and time again. Followed by Elysia Alpha, and Brainworx Townhouse.
