current rtx 3080 can not be used for VST plug-ins because the bitcoin miners bought them all.

Despite all the potential this idea could have, I think developpers and company will go more in the cloud direction, like music, movies and now software and gaming are starting it. It's the best solution for their buisiness model and it would go in the same direction as every others branch of the computer industry.

And so CPU/GPU limitation will not be an issue anymore, and everyone could have the best setup with a basic computer (and of course a great internet connexion).

Not the solution most people want (I'm still a "download music/movie" kind of guy), but it's the future we'll have anyway, and future generation will accept it like the norm...

That's right, but there's yet a long loong way to go. For light applications you can already do fancy things, but for anything else... Google Stadia was the first serious attempt for games and it's already dying.
For real time audio is even more difficult.
For GPU's I mentioned latency is the biggest problem and it is. But as others have mentioned another big one is the lack of a decent standard. OpenCL is the only one but it's far from being mature. Let's hope with the recent powerful Radeons more developers will bet on OpenCl or the next one (Vulkan version of GPU computing)
I love that. Never been easier to get subtitles from mvies and especially shows than now with WebRip downloads

Braingines looks very interesting. I have a 1080 Ti paired with a 3570K on my main desktop and I don't plan to upgrade my GPU anytime soon, especially not with the current raytracing craze. I'm planning on getting an egpu for my Macbook setup (which I keep on my other desk like 90% of the time) and this would be yet another reason to get one. Probably an RX 590 since the current Navi 14/Navi 10 prices are completely fucked. (5700 XTs are getting sold at ~1200€ here)

i think it can be possible if braingines gives the code to steinberg or they team-up with steinberg developing like a vst4 format, which can run on gpu or cpu.... so the developers just have to code their plugins on a universal format and it will run good on both case scenarios
