You know it's funny, in all these years I don't think I've ever investigated that Hammond emu.

I think there are two other reasons I've been curious about Reaper for a while… One is that I'm thinking about ditching Apple altogether the next time I upgrade my system, so it would be nice to be working in a DAW that is cross platform at that time. Moreso however, (and what I'm seeing in this thread), is that there's a real and palpable enthusiasm among its users. And that sort of thing is infectious. I've worked with software that has a strong user community before and it's priceless. Something has to be more than just good to inspire people to sing its praises. It's like if somebody asks me about fabfilter plug-ins I will tell them that they are great and that I use them often. But if somebody asks me about Airwindows plug-ins I will talk their ear off, make suggestions, share experiences, and give them links, etc.

I am perplexed. How long have you been using Logic? I've been with emagic Notator since the early 90's and nothing says in plain terms...."you are an audio engineer, and here is what you need to be such" What on earth can possibly be missing in Logic that has you switching platforms?

I don't think there's anything else I can say that I haven't already in this thread. For me there's nothing missing except reliability. If that has not been your experience then coolio! ;)

@returnal I would suggest to take a look at the Reapack (after you install SWS)
It is a add-on manager where you can find/batch install/manage a big part of the user-developed Actions, JSFX and Themes
Reaper is big fun but it will make you pay for it in the beginning in terms of learning curve.

Thanks. I got through a bunch of those KennyMania videos yesterday and once I'm feeling good with the fundamentals I'll be checking out SWS, Reapack, Themes, various user scripts, etc.

Truly, I was dreading changing DAWs and saw it as nothing more than the big hassle of starting back at square one and wasting time relearning the basics. For that reason I've put it off a few times when I've felt compelled to switch. But after one day with Reaper, and investigating only some of the suggestions made here, I'm really excited now and looking forward to all the possibilities Reaper will bring.

So big thanks to y'all. It's funny that in a decade on multiple Logic specific forums and groups, I have never encountered the degree of enthusiastic support that I'm see here with Reaper ... and this isn't even a Reaper specific forum!!!

Reaper is so lean and mean, Totally agree this is why I switched also.

Just had a quick read of your Reaper Tips & Tricks tut titles and there were many things that immediately caught my eye as pertinent to my workflow. Subscribed! Thanks for posting!

Just a bit of fair warning with REAPER. When you switch FX offline on selected track, it's not fully bypassed. One of my projects, consisting of about 700 tracks, 50 have VST on them strained the CPU a lot (around 83% load) even with no media/midi playing and all FX set to offline. Got no direct advice on REAPER forums, so I figured activating "Do not process muted tracks" and muting all offline tracks should do the trick. And it worked, CPU load quickly plummeted to 0%. But it's quite stupid bug nonetheless.

That's a great tip for me - thanks. I have a habit of auditioning many FX on a channel and then simply leaving the "losers" bypassed instead of removing/deleting them from the channel.

    . . . Look! I'm quoting myself!!! :deep_facepalm:

But since I expressed this as my only gripe in leaving Logic I felt it only right to follow up:

    . . . thank god I won't lose all those SAW percussion instruments . . . :hahaha:
