    Cubase: SSL ASIO Driver
Windows seems to be the same... Via System/Sound/MoreSoundSettings I can see the SSL2+ is selected as default output. Clicking 'properties' it looks like it is the SSL driver, but does not specifically state ASIO (hence my 'seems' comment).

Yeah, what ever i/o is listed is as explicit as that page gets. Just checking since I thought it odd I didn't see (or notice) the driver for asio keyword.

Hmm, did you rule out the ssl driver already by popping one the ASIOwrapper drivers in just to note performance difference?

very strange. are you sure you use the asio driver from the ssl interface? (no steinberg low latency wrapper or generic asio driver or stuff like that? its in studio setup / audio system.
one thing we need to consider: what if there is something wrong with the system on the hardware side.
it could be a faulty cpu cooler and the cpu is throttling. it would be best to download cinebench and have a quick benchmark on your system.
after you run the benchmark cinenbench compares your performance with other processors. and you can goolge what your cpu usually benches and compare with that.
the usb thing: some motherboards have seperate usb controllers soldered on to the to get newer standards the integrated amd chips did not have. I don't think thats the case on your board, you got a very modern amd architecture, wouldnt make sense to solder on usb controllers. but it won't hurt trying other ports.
