studio one is perfect for that, the comping tools alone really help when putting together your own loops

Thank you all for your answers , all really good information.

I found 2 solutions to do the loop recording:
1 In Reaper activate Record midi overdub
2 In Sonar, it's automatic when looping and recording.

Try it out in Studio One, I found it to be really intuitive there. You can loop a region, playback what you previously recorded, and record on another track over it. The great thing is, you can arm other tracks, disarm your already recorded tracks that you just finished and start recording all while the loop is playing.

In Reaper you have a bunch of different recording modes, forgot the exact difference between them. But one of them includes that you can listen to what you recorded and at the same time record into the same midi file that you are listening to. Check this video out:

Although I'd say, take a look at Ableton's workflow in the "session view". It's awesome just to get going and to get down ideas quickly. The session view is all about looping and about blocks of ideas that are repeated over and over again and then recombined. You can shuffle around different clips that you record and try out combinations of them easily.

So you want to create actual loops that are intended to be looped during, say, music production? In that case the end of the loop has to be seamless to the beginning of it, and that requires other tools, but I have no clue about those. Also depends if you're going to do midi loops or wav loops. Former sounds easy, latter is trickier to pull off without artifacts upon looping.

    Reaper has amazing tools,
on the other hand if you'd seek for a LOOPER like DAW, then this is worth checking out: https://zenaud.io/

Ableton: long learning curve, intimidating if coming from a "traditional" DAW, but absolutely the top for testing and developing creative ideas

    Thank you for the info.
It's an interesting program, unfortunately zenAud.io ALK runs on Windows 8.1. (64-bit) or higher.
    I use win 7 x64

ALK2 is pretty much the most innovative loop based DAW out there.

It's mostly focused on live loop playing, though. Check it out:

If you mean regular loop creation, I would say any DAW would do as well. I would go with Studio One because it's the most intuitive in terms of workflow and learning curve, in my opinion.
