The story of Dr. Kucho!, a real DJ and music producer who fights against fake artists that became stars because of their money. A game inspired on Ghosts'n Goblins, keeping the retro style but fighting the monsters of today.

The game is inspired on Ghosts’n Goblins, the best side scroller ever. Yes, I said the best and this is not open to debate! You’re going to feel the precise movement and playability of those old arcades cause I took special care on each of the details to bring back the classic gaming of that glorious age.

Starting with the display picture: this is not a new school pixel game with perfect square pixels, I have created a system to emulate the way the pixels are displayed on an old CRT arcade cabinet screen. But you’ll need be under full screen mode to appreciate it properly.

You are Me! meaning you’re Dr. Kucho!, DJ and producer since 1993. You are on a crusade to destroy the hordes of fake DJ’s taking over the world by dominating the music scene from the top positions, not because of their musical talent but because of a magical power they brought from Averno. This evil power is called … money.

The mechanics of the game are simple: a 2D retro shoot ’em up side scroller, enough said (but mixed with humoristic cinematic clips mostly to criticize the current EDM scene).

The weapons for now are musical supports such as vinyls, CDRom, pen drives and tapes you can throw to spread some justice around. It’s very important to mention that the control work already on PS3, PS4, Xbox360, and compatible controllers. You can also play it with the keyboard or a combination of keyboard and mouse for those who like WASD control. But as Doc M. Brown said: "where we’re going, we don’t need keyboards or mouses or any of that shhh…" (this quote might not be totally literal).

The game has two levels so far, it didn’t grow up much faster because I’m focusing on the fight system, AI of the enemies, multiple options on how the enemies show up on screen and all those things that actually make the game a fun one. Once these complex parts work fine, I’ll start expanding the game’s world.

It will be available first for Windows, Mac OS and Linux, but I’m putting so much effort to make the code mobile friendly so it can be also exported to Android and iOS.

    Featurig

    • Run, jump, duck, fire up, straight and even fire down while jumping!
    • Climb ladders, ivies, pipes...
    • Funny in game comments on comic text balloons
    • Top of the line orchestral music (or retro chip tune music , still to be decided)
    • High frame count animations
    • Unique arcade pixel emulation
    • Multiple gamepad controllers ready
    • 4 levels of difficulty (Bedroom DJ, DJ that plays at Miami or Ibiza for free, DJ that doesn’t need to do P.R. for living and DJ that actually makes music A.K.A. producer.)

    Not featuring

    • Decisions to take, this is an arcade game, so it’s simple: everybody have to die!

    Dr. Kucho!:
enough said about me already, but this could be you!, I mean, if you make the right pledge I can draw a pixel version of you to be an alternative main character of the game.

    Guapa:
the assistant of the Doctor, she’ll help by throwing items such as energy or weapons at different points of the map.

Devil Gueta: Don’t let him do what he does better than anyone: raising hands in the air.

    Steve Sushi:
He can fly, throw cakes, use Asian kitchen hardware against you… anything is possible with this guy.

Paris Sheraton: Someone asked me what was the most difficult part of creating this game. Well, the answer is to think what would be a proper attack for this enemy and not because of a lack of imagination but because… is there really anything this girl can do besides telling other person to attack you? (which she actually does when she is on ground) Finally, taking the risk of being not too much credible, Paris flies on a broom and sends evil kisses (but this will be probably changed for throwing chihuahuas ).

    Pauly Douchebag:
When he’s not too busy taking care of his hair, he uses his muscles to make you bite the dust.

PitBullshit: Nothing scarier than the voice and the sophisticated lyrics of the songs of this creature. Hit him before is close enough to you and sing, or you will lose control and run away from him!

You willl be using the last weapon you picked up on your crusade.

At the beginning I tested some of the tracks of my dance album "The return of the king" on the game, but it didn't work, at least not on the way they are produced, I might do special version of some of them adapted to fit in the game but once thing is for sure: they won't have a dance beat. In any case, if you are into dance music, you might be interested on getting the album, and that would be an excellent way to support this project so we have included it in some of the rewards.

So, to feel the game action properly, I made a single orchestral track to play in the first two levels for now. Each level will have it's own dedicated music but is still not decided if they are going to be orchestral or retro synths made. I love both styles and I am experienced music producer so making the tunes won't be a problem, that's why I decided not to worry about this for now.
