Yes, that is indeed the problem of many that this just has to be the reason for something not working.

So, what exactly is not working?

It's not easy to sift through all the garbage and you easily get paralyzed by all the options, but all the information is out there. It took me well over 2 years before finding my path and what's relevant to my journey. What's your aim with music and what do you wanna learn?

You've been at this a whopping 2-3 weeks and are mad you aren't making top 10 hits yet or what?

Do the same thing most of us did. Go read a book. Go take some recording classes at the local college. Buy a fucking 4 track and start recording local bands and learn trial and error. How is it gatekeeping when I go to Google and find 10000 tutorials on how to use EQs or compressors or some other random studio process. I can go to Amazon and there's 10000 books on studio productions, DAW usage, etc.

There's no gatekeeping, you're just impatient and lazy.

I do not need/use Serum. But if you want to learn about Serum, that would be a different topic.

Dude cmon! You could have got there with a youtube search. If that's what's keepin' you, then it's a way of pain ahead. Anyway here you go:

This shall get you started & then recreate patches from here to learn your way around it:

I get you're new and now you'll probably spend months just struggling through technical stuff (like plugins, libraries & synths; which is going to lead nowhere). Then you'll realize at the end you have to compose something that's good. You better learn to play any instrument & with that develop taste. No one can tell you how to play a piano or guitar or drums. That's something you gotta figure out by yourself.

I was just listening to Solti's Wagner records [2022 Remaster]. Ah...It's a long way to get there.

Sometimes people don't mention every last bit of detail because that might be excessively obvious for their intended audience. That's not gatekeeping, but might appear as such. Your post left out most details too, so I'm left guessing here.

If you don't understand something, get your hands dirty and mess around until you get it. Repeat ad nauseam for the next couple years.

If a topic seems impenetrable, move on to the next bit and revisit it when you have enough hands-on experience to get it.

90% practice, 10% learning from others.

The course most people say is the best for Serum is called DAW Nation Au5 Serum Masterclass. At least of the ones which have been shared. I think it covers the entire synth. I never watched it. Serum is a pretty easy to learn synth. It is very straight forward and that is why so many people use it.

There was a new update to Syntorial posted on sister site. It's also a popular way for people to learn more than they already know about synthesis: https://www.syntorial.com

It takes time man. A lot of it.

A lot of people here have spent over 10,000 hours using this stuff and absolutely still are learning.

    Oh LOL
Mate, every complex thing ever requires you to learn. This is not gatekeeping. Surgery is not being gatekept by human biology, Serum is not being gatekept by a fucking wavetable oscillator.
Try to learn something simple first, like a basic subtractive synthesizer (Iunno, Charlatan 3 and any basic video on subtractive synthesis will do), then build upon this knowledge and learn where and how Serum is different.
