Gaming headphones for mixing!!

    THX Pirate, yes. thats exactly what I'm saying!

    And to that end please don't think I'm attacking or belittling you, I'm just trying to help you understand how it works so when you share your mixes it sounds as good to them as it does to you. I don't doubt your mixes sound awesome in your cans but the trick is to get it sounding that good on anything you play it through, what your hearing now isn't a good representation of what's actually coming out of your DAW. and from what it sounds like all it might take is a bit of EQ on your master out and boom you got what you hear in your can coming out of anything you play it through. ;)

    I already understand this. I'm saying a pair of krk rokits will sound much different coming out of a UAD based interface compared to a scarlet. Monitors and headphones frequency response are only as good as the amp it's connected too. And in the case of headphones, how that amp deals with low and high impedance. Notice that the frequency response of the A10 headphones are measured in over 6 different ways, with 6 very different frequency responses given the standards used to measure them. That's why I say the graph posted was taken out of context, because there were 6 other graphs showing different frequency responses. Not trying to argue or make anyone upset, just offering logical discourse to the debate. :)

    i would be careful changing your whole mix to suit these headphones. they are most likely not as neutral as you might suspect and will not translate to other listening environments as well as a good monitoring system (and room).

    they are definitely worth using as a reference though, particularly if you are creating audio for the purpose of gaming, but be sure to compare against other listening environments too.

    Flatter doesnt mean that people will still know how to position and eq the instruments.
    Some people can work on very bright, you could say harsh monitors with a very weak bass and get it done.
    Also, true reference is only material that has passed trough your own processing chain, done with your ears, your speakers, your converters.
    You can reference that with your future material, other reference material was done with a different setup, different desk, processing, converters, ears, room, different person, state of mind, etc.
    And dont forget that the ears themselves differ from person to person.
    Reference is something that is a bit more complicated.
    While there is a lot of freedom with mixing, there are still many basic rules and as long as you are working on a more balanced monitoring system you can get good results.

    @Von_Steyr I agree with what you said, however,your statement takes what I wrote out of context. Of course some people can work on very bright, you could say harsh monitors with a very weak bass and get it done. As I said earlier, it comes down to how well you know your monitors/headphones + the reference source. With that said, the flatter the response of your headphones or monitors the more accurate the reproduction of the sound is going to be...and the better positioned you will be to mix. That was message that @evolasme and I were trying to convey.
