This was announced about a week ago and I only just caught it, so I thought other artists using Gig Performer via Plugin Alliance might have missed it as well.
The initial article isn't terribly clear, seemingly alluding to something without actually saying anything, but it's possible that I'm just subconsciously nit-picking at the wording and everything that's there is the entirety of it; I don't feel like speculating.
I figured this would be useful information for people wanting to take advantage of the crossgrades available from Deskew, so they can continue to receive updates. Incidentally, I believe the last Unlocked version released under PA was v4.6.8—at least, that's the last installer that I have (if I'm wrong in this, drop a line below.)

That's outrageous! I haven't received any emails regarding this, just a bunch of god damn discounts!
The latest Unlocked version is 4.5.8.

I've stopped dealing with PA too, so maybe it's a new trend?

Gotcha. Good to know. I must have misread the version number in haste.

Which is fine; you do you. That said, I don't understand why everyone has been jumping on this anti-PA bandwagon, while turning a blind eye to companies that have nearly identical business practices. People seem to forget that this is a business, and that these companies have people who work for them who have rent and bills and gambling debts and cocaine habits... just like all of us do. :dunno:

Because it'd be nice to be alerted to the fact that an instrument (essentially,) that you paid for will no longer be receiving updates as you normally would have, unless you cross-grade over with Deskew. Simple as that. At least GP Unlocked won't be scrapped though; I am happy about that, so you're not forced to cross-grade.

Exactly, those sons of bit**es didn't notify US, their customers about anything. I subscribed to their newsletter to get things like this.

They lied. They don't care about their users. I immediately unsubscribed and won't deal with them ever again.

That's because they've changed the way they do business, and now they want to be the top dog instead of the underdog.

PS I now have a lot more money for gambling :)

Kind of a drastic, mule-kick response, but as I told Zenarcist, you do you. All I know is that if you stick to the script of deep-sixing relations with any companies that lie to you, you're arsenal of plugins & VIs is going to be looking mighty lite... and you're gonna have to toss your computer too. Welcome to the wide world of business ethics. :dunno:

It's Capitalism; everyone wants to be the Top Dog, that's how you play the game. I'm just coming at it from the perspective that they've never done me wrong, with the few occasions I felt burnt because of some site error or a miscommunication concerning my account or a licensing request, the issues were handled within 48hrs of my emailing them... which, actually, kinda surprised me, especially with their recent management/merger(s) changes as of late. I'm not defending them as per their business playbook, or saying they've never dropped the ball in one way or another, I just don't have any legit complaints. This breaking off with Deskew was an unpleasant surprise, but it's far from a deal-breaker for me, it just would've been nice to know. In the grand scheme of things, I'm surprised Deskew—who's as dedicated to their we-don't-do-sales policy as DMG Audio is—tossed their product under the PA umbrella in the first place.

Yeah, I read about it. I'm hoping that Plugin Alliance remains as distant from NI as possible, which I think is a real possibility seeing as how they can't act solely as "Plugin Alliance," as they do have to take into account all of the brands they host other than, or course, Brainworx. Don't quote this as fact, but as of right now it seems that any implementation of that festering hunk of convoluted shit known as Native Access, will be an optional means of licensing, if at all. This is assuming their partnership doesn't disintegrate or morph as Soundwide did. Remember, none of this is about bro-ing down with fellow devs, this is strictly a business move, so implosion is always possible.
I'm currently having a back-'n-forth about it, because fuck'em if they don't have time to field questions from some random dude. :hahaha:
