I recently made this track, it started out as a hip-hop beat but then I added so many different elements from different types of music I'm not sure it really qualifies as hip-hop anymore. Anyways I'm quite pleased with the end results and I'd love to get a round of feedback on this experiment of mine,

Hey man. This is good stuff. That beat is really cool and I love the break and melody @ 1:28.
Nice balance in the mix and sounds. Immediately sparked a bunch of ideas for rap and lyric lines flowin with this.
You got it right, it's like a neat blend of hiphop and ambient.

Actually i just have crappy speakers, so... Maybe if the kick has some more punch...

 

Thanks a lot ! On the kick you're right, I used the freebie "Old tape drums". Love that tape sound but there's literally no low end on it. I tried time and time again to boost the kick through EQ but no luck there.
Anyone got any clue on how to "add" low end when there isn't really any to begin with ?

 

You could try to layer it with another kick, or maybe some low synth sound.
