Q: Why?
A: Less blue, goes with ~~my couch~~ Ableton Live + a few usability tweaks, like highlight when FX are muted, filter-through-filter routing, etc. Looks like this:



Q: What's with the hexagon?
A: Guessing it's some kind of Hive->Honeycomb visual pun, ask u-he. It's hard to get rid of without moving a bunch of stuff, and I don't think that's doable without messing with the code. I'm not a coder.

Works for me. It's basically a "skeleton" (as in "skeleton clock") thing (all the displays etc. are just cut out (alpha masked), so you can stick whatever you want in the background, including nothing/solid color). Pretty sure I got the PSDs, can upload them if you want. Also added some comments to Hive.txt file, so you don't need to spend time figuring out what's what

Edit: I prefer simple skins. They are less distracting. More faster to use. Minimal Design.

I agree, would certainly make something closer to that if I sold VSTs. If I was a car manufacturer & had to pick just one color to make them in, I'd probably go with silver (over, say, cyan & cream two-tone). Which is not to say cyan/cream is bad -- just not for everyone.

I'm not selling skins tho, appealing to the broadest possible demographic isn't the point. Had fun making it, sorta liked it, thought I'd share. In my defense, not like I'm making you to listen to my shitty music

Look, I'm all for practical, no-bullshit GUI for productivity apps, tho guessing the reason VST makers didn't break with skeuomorphic design by now (a virtual synth needs to resemble a real synth about as much as Microsoft Word needs to look like a typewriter) is because most people who ~~steal~~ buy their warez are doing it for fun (aren't professional music factory assembly line workers, trying to manufacture as many ~~shitty~~ musics as their tooling allows).

 

Get rid of the photo background and I'd use it.

 

I've ~~cracked u-he enigma code; jammed a square peg into a round hole. Dr. Hexagon (my arch enemy) has been defeated.~~ stopped being lazy and figured out how to move stuff around.

Skinning this stuff is pretty simple -- just folders full of pics & plain text files that tell the VST how to stick those pics together. If you like playing with CC, just try it.

Hi @Lock it down , late feedback sorry, had no time to come here lately...
I never managed to have these skins working, and looking in the files I downloaded, I saw the architecture of the files is different from the default ones. I was thinking maybe it is not the right folder?
Really looking forward to try those Dune skins out ;)
