yeah, i did that too. but wait until you actually try to download. you will have to create an account with slate to do it. and that means giving up a bunch of personal info.

I want to download the samples, but I don't get the email from Steven Slate... Why?

 

luckily i already have an account with them (for years now), so all i had to do was log in & they were already in my dashboard.

I don't get it, those sample packs have been available for free for quite a while now, are they planning to make them available through purchase now? dang, what a bummer

 

Download is free, but the intellectual property rights belongs to Slate

My advice is not to use them at all for any commercial production (the advice is valid for any sample pack)

 

That's what I thought, maybe some of those were paid.

 

just be creative with the loops and everything will be ok, don't throw the loop as it is, this is for almos every sample pack unless you read the fine print.

Until your song, composed with sample packs, has 1000 views on youtube obviously no one will come to harass you
In case your product (which contains the Slate samples) instead starts to generate substantial money, rest assured that there will be a team of lawyers ready to devour you.

What i mean with being creative with the loop is transform it into something new that is not recognizable, and obviously you can use one shot like kicks and snare freely AFAIK.

 

Try going to the website and click "my Account" then "download samples" think that's how I did it(after you make an account ofc).

 

The samples are royaly free. Royalty free doesn't mean the samples are yours, royalty free means that Slate will not ask for money if you use them in a successful song. Slate may be shady but unlikely to be so malicious to hunt for people using their free samples. Those are standard licensing terms.

ON THE OTHER HAND YouTube's content ID detection is so flawed, if many people will use for example a melody loop or vocal loop straight from a sample pack, just the first uploader will get green light, the subsequent uploaders will get their work flagged. Basically if you use melody loops from your DAW's stock loops (and at least someone used the same loop and uploaded to YouTube before you) then YouTube will flag you for copyright. It doesnt looks that it gets better in the future, so use single shots or loops snippets (not full library loops)

Yes, i agree with you even if usually this policy is intended to avoid to resell samples with your name ….
Btw, I bet is quite hard to recon a single sample in a production (depends on music style and so on) since today there is tons of samples around the net and the mods after a post mix process.
