But of course, diet influences your music. If you only consume sugar and caffeine all day, you won't have any rest and will become a nervous wreck.

But that also depends heavily on your age. When you're young, you can eat and do almost anything; your first cola or alcohol shock will teach you how to feel bad. If you drink alcohol for a long time, your liver will eventually fail. Memorizing lyrics will also be difficult with alcohol. You'll probably forget some of the lyrics at your first live performance because of the alcohol. Look at music greats like Elvis, Hendrix, and others; you'll know that too many drugs; pill abuse and poor nutrition lead to illness and sometimes premature death.

If you're a musician, drink plenty of still water and/or tea. Eat in moderation and in peace. Nervous disorders caused by poor nutrition, especially processed sugar, are not good if you're making serious music. Remember, your body is not a machine but a living organism; get enough sleep.

The effect was so noticeable and consistent that I wondered if I was hungrily lapping up placebo, but the data is in: very dark chocolate (85-100% cacao) makes me feel happy, relaxed and focused. It turns out there's a lot of good stuff in it beyond the small amount of caffeine. In fact, I don't think the caffeine does anything for me given my coffee tolerance. It's mostly the flavonoids. Be aware of the high saturated fat content, but apparently mainstream nutritionists think the health effects offset the fat.

Milk chocolate doesn't produce this effect for me. The darker, the more noticeable. Grab a Lindt 90% and give it a shot.

    I once had a cruelty-free, ocean-wise, free-trade, locally-sourced, ISO-9870 certified, organic, vegan steak- then, as a result, I produced new-age world music for 6 days straight

Well, it's not food, but they'll mention it anyway: quality coffee! By the way, nighttime creative work is always more productive for me - I think it's a matter of type.

Try playing some delicately subtle oboe themes after downing a litre of cola.

    There's your answer.

I’m not sure about the effects of specific foods, but fasting, like religious fasts, can really help clear your mind and improve focus on your tasks. (And just to be clear: I said fasting, not something else :))
