FL Studio Producers' Favorite Genres

  1. These statistics are from one of the DAW forums that's just being collected. I thought it might be useful for you.

As usual Electronic Dance Music party has won the election until this moment. The second and third places belong to hip-hop and pop music. Voting still continues, but these percentages are not likely to change.

The poll is biased to users of FL Studio. Pro Tools users would surely show a much different outcome.

  7. Music genres don't matter much. Almost all music in each genre has similar characteristics. More important than categorizing music in different genres is how to make those music.

The way music is made varies in each of them, and the concerns of each music genre are different from the other.

When producers choose a genre to vote for, they actually choose how to make music and the emphasis they want, and the understanding and vision they have about the music.

What does electronic music end up wanting to be? What could be the end of rock music? All these endings have already been explored by musical myths.

Many techniques have been combined and new species have emerged, but what is ultimately important is the music itself, not its genre. Music can appear differently. Of course, it should not be forgotten that some species use one's artistic creativity more in a particular context than other species, but some species act restrictively in applying those creativities, but instead flourish other aspects of creativity.

We need to first see what we want from music and which aspect of music is important to us, and then make a choice. For example, if a person is an expert musician, he will never be able to flourish and showcase his talent in the field of hip-hop. Therefore, he should look for a species that is in line with his wishes.

I disagree about the genre not mattering much. Think about it, FL Studio is all about EDM and electronic music in general and the flow caters to in the box creation. Which recording studios have you heard of that use it to either record rock, classical, country or jazz, types of music that generally capture live performances with microphones? The answer is one or a fraction of a percentage will be the answer, therefore genre seems to matter greatly when polling from a specific targeted audience such as FL Studio. Of course everybody under the sun is using Pro Tools or Cubase, but I would guarantee with certainty that their polling response would be significantly different as I believe a higher percentage would be recording musicians playing their instruments.

You start with genres not mattering much and end up with this. Whoa dude.

Also, you make the inference that hip-hop musicians can't be expert musicians.

You're not making any fucking sense, I'm afraid.

    Make what u like,
    Listen what u like,
Don't make this thread into an anti-particular genre music thread nor a DAW war,
Compiling a list of various DAW wars from everywhere will be a thread in itself:rofl:

We had heard all styles of music in the last century. Every band or soloist who can do something has performed live. Because only then do you see and hear whether someone can do something.

How do you become famous or how does the music get to the listener?

Many have applied to record companies and radio stations with a demo tape or demo CD. A producer, label owner or radio editor then decided to produce this or that and the concert promoter then booked the bands' tours. After everyone around the world was able to make music on their PC at home and also use samples, everything has shifted. You could now upload your music to YouTube and Bandcamp.

Thousands of opportunities quickly emerged to share your music with others. You can also set up an online radio yourself. Mixing and mastering merged into one process. The drummer replaced the drum machine, the guitarist replaced the virtual instruments and samplers. Only the human voice remained. If you listen to a piece today, you don't know whether the musician is playing or a sample was taken.

Technology and digitization brought and still brings more freedom. Requirements are a power connection and the necessary money for the hardware. My electricity is even generated with a wind power plant. It's also great that you meet so many people in a forum. One lives and plays the piano in Australia, the other sings and lives in Alaska.

A common response (if warranted) from a dedicated Mastering Engineer in a dedicated mastering studio.
"I am grateful you left some headroom".

Actually, I do not think there would be much difference. if you did it on a Steinberg forum, or a ProTools forum or a Logic Pro forum, the results would be very different, but here? Not a lot of difference other than some lower scoring genres may be a tad higher but the higher scoring votes would not be too dissimilar.

    What?
What do you mean with expert musician? you mean a professional musician. So far i understand those can work in every genre, the industry is currently hyping. Because they mastered music itself not an particular genre. (i am including here, coming up with catchy melodies, which simply are beautiful and easy enough to remember - this holds for all genres). So he will also be good in hiphop, because its the melody and the drums mainly and for everything else you have a team.

Or did you mean something else?

I for my part stopped caring about genres, if the track sounds and i enjoy it. It is all good.

I can imagine FL is probably not the best DAW for recording various styles and also remember if you busy with the DAW itself, you certainly do not hang out in the forum to even vote in the Poll.

Another Point: I think if you did the poll in a PT forum or Cubase forum, i think other genres would be pushed further.

Or better idea, just do the poll here.

I for my part have a few genres: Ambient, Drone, Techno, Trance, Drum and Bass, New Age, Soundtrack, If DnB is there, then HipHop is not far drum-wise

You have to be fluid today, whater inspires you

I don't understand what you mean by "expert musician" but I can play 9 instruments last time I checked without knowing shit about music theory, maybe some scale names, modes and timing etc. I produced at least 50 tracks (lost count already) for my clients in HipHop genre alone. They personally told me they hate HipHop producers because they are so "basic" and "preset whore" (their exact words) and then hire me (not a hiphop producer) instead. I even started tutoring now, someone hired me to train him to be a "beatmaker". Not saying im a good beatmaker, but I know how to create some beat, plus it is a good business so I took it.

My business partner and I come from Hardcore Punk touring band background, and we advertise our business as Rock music producer. I mixed punk, metal music mostly but doing some Chillwave, Lo-Fi, Synthwave (also some Depeche Mode wannabes) and singersongwriter stuff for now because it is what people are writing this past 18 months because of lockdown and hired us to mix/master/co-produce.

I don't know if you are implying that Hip Hop requires some extra little street knowledge gangsta flow vibe stuff or something, but to be honest EVERY GENRE has its special little something and difficulties on their own. The thing is you get/understand it or not, but if you didn't even try, you'll never know.

Theoretically, a professional musician is someone who makes a living out of playing, writing and composing music and anyone else is an amateur.
In these COVID times, there are not a lot of professional musicians playing, plenty composing, perhaps more writing songs but even less making a living out of it.
