    Hi,

I remember using a VST plugin in the early 2000's that would filter the audio eg. the highpass.
But it would be steps of different highpass amounts that you could specify -- synced to quarter notes, eighth notes, 16th etc.
For example, first step could be full highpass amount 100%, 2nd step could be no highpass amount 0%, 3rd step could be 50% highpass, etc.
And your sound would be filtered accordingly, giving some dry simple sounds some real interesting effect.
It came with maybe 8 different preset patterns, and they seemed adequate to get some neat effects right away.

It was similar to an arpeggiator, only it was filtering your audio.
It was a simple VST plugin.
I know there are synths that have this built in, like Sylenth, but there are alot of other synths that don't.
I guess it would be similar to Sugar Bytes Effectrix. I've played around with Effectrix, and you can filter, at different steps with different amounts, but -- I don't know, it's just not the same kind of filter effect I remember.

I'd like to find the same kind of plugin for the Mac, if I can.

Also, I'm looking for a plugin that can randomly pan L-R, synced to quarter notes, 16th, eighth notes, etc.
    Is there anything like that?
Kontakt can do that, but I'd like to have a plugin for other synths that don't have that function.

pfilter, it's free. Get it here:

    https://delamanchavst.wordpress.com/2013/10/23/pfilter/

"pfilter creates a steppy, gated effect, but using filter cut-off instead of volume to give a wider range of possibilities. It uses a variable state filter, triggered between 2 adjustable cut-off values by a tempo-sync’d probability-based step sequencer. An LFO can modulate the filter when triggered and trigger pulse length, attack and release can shape the sound."

Alternatively, I'd say get SoundToys' FilterFreak, it's amazing.

Kantos by Antares? Can still grab it from sister site. 32bit, but works with JBridge fine. No OSX version (was never ported)

Much better than Filtermate. Thanks Pine. Kantos is an audio synth, interesting but hard to learn and no presets, I remember trying it years ago without success. Maybe worth a second check.

Too many to list, but here's a few:
Free: Tweakbench breakdown. Nice step sequencer, different filter types. Win only.

Cableguys FilterShaper: Not only steps but arbitrary curves to build any kind of filter envelope. Win/Mac
    image.jpeg

TAL Filter 2 (Win/Mac), not as deep as FilterShaper but does its job and is FREE thanks to Togu Audio.

Antares Filter (old, dead but great :)). Win/Mac.
