Fender hot rod deluxe (silver face)

Discussion in 'Soundgear' started by Vincent Price, Feb 6, 2024.

  1. Hello

I have heard that there is a way of recording tube amps silently, for example if your in a shared or rented property and you can’t make much noise.

I have the Fender Hotrod Deluxe (Silver face) I think 2005.

Is this possible with this amp?

    Thanks

Software has come a long way and although I have a Vox AC4TV I always seem to opt with an in the box solution or use a Strymon Iridium.

Iso boxes sound a bit claustrophobic and boxed in (duh) when I listen to recordings done that way.

I sold my Vox AC15C1 because I literally never play out and gig anymore and my lovely neighbors would likely grab their pitchforks and shovels then burn me after taring and feathering me.

You could clone your own amp too!

A loadbox would be the most "correct" and straightforward tool for the job i think, in the way that you'll still be using your mics and cab, it'll just be quieter. Most come with a DI output post power section so you can record that and add IR's after if you want.

Second option would be an isolation cabinet (bascally a well isolated box with a speaker inside). Wouldn't be surprised if you found pre-made ones depending on where you live, but this is mostly a DIY solution and as such the results may vary. I have one, does the job, but it was terribly designed (by me) and it gives me backpain every time.

You can also use a DI that can take speaker level signals and use it in combination with IR's and a separate dummy load to use the amp without the speaker. That's an entirely different topic with some risks to consider and it's basically a homemade, budget version of option 1. It's there though, if you like making things explode, zapping yourself and sometimes making things work by miracle.

It's time for you to jump into the world of ampsim. You will regret it the first few months until you fully understand how it works. It takes time, but worth it.

About your situation, I think that amp doesnt have FX returns, so the next best solution is ISO cab but my guts telling me it wont work well with a fender style amp.
