Yes, sorry I didn't thought about basses. Maybe some mod can fix the title and add "basses"?

Hmm maybe "Favourite string instruments" had been the best choice? I like double basses a lot more than bass guitars, to be honest. But too expensive, and I don't think I can learn the stroking by myself... The double bass was the first instrument I really wanted, but it was a little expensive for my parents, and no teachers around here...

Like this maybe? 1-Full 01.jpg 2-Top 06.jpg Well no single coils on that one, or on my 1983 hardtail , but stacked instead... 1-Top 3.jpg
Highly modified electronics, but I would always reach for one or the other ..

My original Ibanez Universe UV7BK with her younger sister Fender Jim Root Tele.
Love the Tele, plays wonderful and covers so many styles.

The Universe is an absolute pig, but as it travelled most of Europe with me during the 90's I can't let her go. Still a pig

If you don't like metal but still want metal then it's Mayones Regius:

It is an instrument that requires a physique du rĂ´le that's why I refused when they offered me to learn it, but I think it's weird you don't find teachers for it (you're in the middle of nowhere like me? ). Finding one would probably help you to acquire a good instrument at an affordable price for your level. Prepare to sacrifice your fingers if you go for it.
As an electronic counterpart you could strive for a fretless perhaps.
To MODS: stop this shameless self promotion.:dont:

Couldn't afford a Gibson or Gretsch so, after a lot of research, plumped for a Hagstrom Viking Deluxe and absolutely love it. Jack of all trades, sounds great, imo and plays like a dream. If money was no option, I'd love a Rickenbacker 12-string, Vox Phantom, Vox Teardrop, Airline, Gretsch, Hofner etc.

    Thanks. There's no turning point.
No cool, man. I was killing it at AudioCamp. At least wait a bit until I have enough money to buy Soothe2...

My two favourites, a 70s series strat and a naked Faith Venus. The Squire is my daily driver, it's cheap but plays extremely well and hardly ever goes out of tune.

I must add a Les Paul to the family this year

I've considered a Variax a couple of times, what is it like to play?
