I don't think it matters too much what kind of reverb that use as long as you use the trick that was mentioned in 101 mix tricks that technique is awesome make your reverb sound awesome

Valhalla is a good basic verb for sure, all of them are great. However, my "go to reverb" is 2CAudio's Aether and for the orchestral environments, nothing beats AudioEase's Altiverb.
I have the Lexicon LXP and have grown to dislike it comparatively speaking to the aforementioned. Not sure why? I think I don't like the timbre anymore of the Lexicon plugin. Not sure I even like the hardware anymore either... :dunno:

  4. A little off topic, but don't wait like I did until you get a lung infection and cannot breathe, although it made it easier because I really didn't want one for a good long while. By that time the nicotine was out of my system. Been about 4 years now and as I type this could really go for a cig. I will say nOOOOO. Now, back on topic...

VVV, the old 32bit Lexicon PCM and FL Convolver, today.

I have to chime in and give some more love for Valhalla.... that is my general go to.. (Eos from AD is great as well, by same designer, sean costello...)... I'm more into algorithmic verbs myself then convolution unless for fx, but altiverb with RMX16 is great for vocals, and the new audio thing Fog is great for guitars in a MBV/NIN way.. generally, it's funny, not a big fan of reverb unless it's recorded into what I am tracking... love the BC/Aether stuff again for fx and some treatments, but I generally like stuff pretty dry...

I honestly used D-Verb (Pro Tools stock) forever. Got my hands on LexHall, and I loved it. If what I'm doing is CPU-intensive, I use stock for reference. But, when I'm not doing too much, def LexHall.

I've been into Melda MMultiband Convolution verb lately, but obviously the heavy hitters have been mentioned already.

I use reverence from cubase for mastering reverb. I like it a lot but RC24 and RC48 are great also.

I really, really miss Arboretum's Hyperprism Hyperverb for the Mac, which was damn near perfect (the Hyperprism pack also included a regular low-CPU Hall and Room Reverb which were a little metallic-sounding, but still not bad). They went out of business before Intel processors came along, so they never even got ported to OSX. Right now, I'm using Lexicon's Room Reverb for rooms, which works out nice, but am struggling to find a decent hall reverb. All of Lexicon's hall reverbs sound too cavernous, while their Concert Hall reverbs are barely audible, which is a shame, because they're really warm and lush. Everything else I've tried out -- ArtsAcoustic, Breverb 1& 2, NI's RC24/48, IK's CSR, even the built-in powered Fabrik reverbs on my TC Konnekt 24D -- is either too bright and twangy or does too little to convey a utilitarian hall space. I was hoping to have Lexicon 'verbs as my base reverbs, then bring in specialty reverbs for certain instruments, like horns or choruses, but I still haven't found one I like. I may revisit Altiverb, which I use mainly on orchestral stuff.

Waves Trueverb is pretty awesome, but in that case, it's a bit too realistic. Or maybe I'm just really super-picky.

    1. Exponential Audio PhoenixVerb
    2. Audio Ease Altiverb 7
    3. Universal Audio reverbs (except DreamVerb)
    4. Spacedesigner with EMT140 & Bricasti IR's

I have to try EW QL Spaces.

Eventide doing about the best Reverb Plugins at the moment imho.
Of course stuff like Bricasti M7 fantastic but not like strictly just a plugin.
Personally again on this one I really believe in investing in hardware wherever possible. Reverb using complicated algorithms takes up a lot of processing power that can be better utilized in other areas. In some cases the hardware is reasonably priced anyway.
Sure the Lexicon MX400XL definitely ain't in the same class as a PCM96 etc but personally give me that with a plugin included that integrates into your DAW over something like Altiverb any day. They also are the same price :dunno:
That's just me tho and others will have different opinions. Apart from ease of use the processing power done externally etc leaving your DAW free to concentrate elsewhere. The algo's often better processed also due to integrated on board dedicated chip etc.
For reverb unless u got the money for say a Bricasti then plugin wise I'd say stick with the established stuff such as Eventide, Lexicon, TC Electronic.
There are some fairly decent plugins as mentioned such as 2C Aether,Valhalla etc, etc but they simply not in the same league inho.
Just my opinion also & depends what you need etc also I guess. Also rack hardware comes with additional costs such as power conditioning, cooling, housing etc & can break lol so advantages/disadvantages to both I guess

2CAudio breeze and b2 are my most frequent used reverbs, b2 sound really impressive but is quite heavy on the CPU
