Clone, why is this funny to you? Yeah sure it doesn't have a lot of options, but you don't always need deep optimization. I would take the Virus effects with their limitations over 95% of other software VSTs.

 

I've never liked Pro-R that much due to its lack of a distinct sound. Most of the times when I think about reverb I think about a certain tone, and Pro-R is somehow abstract. It's the kind of plugin I'd use when I need some reverb but not a reverb. It's the same with all FF products, really: they're extremely versatile and amazing for most technical tasks but they aren't as appealing as other, more specialized plugins.

I think it's also the reason why everyone loves valhalla plugins - they're versatile and great for most situations, but they also have an immediate appeal in their character and workflow.

 

There's 53 pages, but this thread started 10+ years ago - some of the verbs mentioned don't even exist anymore...

 

Because it's impractical to where I thought you were joking maybe? Even though they have done nice work optimizing both of those synths/fx, they are still high cpu usage to do their thing simply because they are emulations. So then, you are using such a plugin (read: resources drain) as an insert effect directly on one track, or are you using them to send multiple channels to, for whatever that summing experiment would result in?

It strikes me as some kind of gimmicky waste of cpu. I'd say the same thing had you mentioned Serum FX was your favorite reverb, for the same reasons.

 

Maybe you haven’t used it in a while? It used to be a resource hog but they’ve optimized it really well. I barely notice it while using it as an FX insert and my PC is average at best.

 

Maybe not in the last few months, but there was a point where they were making big gains by doing optimizations and then it tailed off to a trickle. Because that's usually how optimization turns out. 10% of the work gets you 90% of the improvements. That last 10% will take the other 90% of the work. All the low hanging fruit are gone. With the dsp56300 plugins, that ship has already sailed.

And with insert fx, I can see that too. It's why I mentioned it. But I would stick with the 90% estimated guessing on how often anyone uses a reverb as a send fx in their projects as opposed to the channels they will have reverb on as an insert. So if something is going to run poorly, it's when you are sending a ton of channels to it. In a full project, you surely do not want like 40 or 50 reverb fx instances loaded individually. If a reverb is not good at both of them, it's going to move down your list amongst your other reverbs.

 

Thought I'd chime in to talk about my favourite reverb: the RO-SPR from Black Rooster. No reverb unit I've heard this far sounds as live as that one. It's like it's got a life of its own! Not like FF Saturn's modulations (which are great), but like something really live, organic, unpredictable, I mean, beyond complex LFO curves, something three-dimensional, more like... organic or... real. In fact, I'd say it's not even just a reverb, it's a life-inducing device to any track you stick it in (but of course, it uses reverb for that). Btw, if anyone understands what I mean and knows of other effects with such characteristics ("live" compressors, saturators etc.), please share!

 

Springs are cool BC they do "poingoingoingoingoing"

 

Interesting video from Heron Island Studio. He think Melda's MTurboReverb is one of the best reverbs.

Indeed it is very good. I exclusively used it until I found out that Acon Verberate 2 is even way better.

I like springs, but I mean... there's something different with Black Rooster's reverbs. Their plates also feels more live than Valhalla's. I have to test them against Fuse Audio Labs

 

My favorite plates are Airwindows kPlate bundle. Amazing sound, nice overdrive control, pretty and colorful

 

It's not just the reverbs. Almost everything in that bundle is great. The ones that aren't great are more like unneeded, rather than bad. That guy Ray Dratwa worked on plugins for both, so you probably will see some things they have in common. On that note, I'd like to see a Pulsar Modular Reverb too

 

I'm starting to get addicted to rooms. Especially for drums and melodies. For me is the key to get a lively sound on a mix with virtual drums or to glue melodies from different sources. Of course, plates sound magic, springs got tons of retro vibe and movement but rooms and halls with shorter decays are a must for me now. Altiverb still the king of the rooms. All lexicon units has great rooms, native plugin or IR's. And Valhalla Vintageverb if i want more modulation and movement.

 

I recently re-discovered an older reverb plugin for really great sounding EDM-Leads.
Artsacoustic Reverb.
Hasn't been updated for almost a decade, and I might think it has been abandoned, but it sounds great on my leads.
Other than that, I normally use Slate Verbsuite, because it is versatile and has different IRs. Sometimes, I also use Seventh Heaven, for that nice Bricasti M7 reverb.

As far as springs go I still haven't found anything that sounds as cool as Arturia. Too bad it's a CPU hog.

Recently several high end devs released spring reverbs though. Klanghelm's TENS is really good, although I haven't played a lot. Fuse Audio Labs' Spring Rev Amp sim is really incredible, and Pulsar have just released their own take. I trust Pulsar blindly, so I'll assume it will become my go-to, but we'll see lol.

 

Room is my favorite type of reverb. if you talk reverb i'm instantly thinking room or hall reverb.
unless the subject is specifically about guitars then i think spring.
plates are great too, but i consider its use less versatile

 

an older one I "re-discovered recently" is the MannyMaroquin Waves reverb. "Re-discovered" is a stretch of the imagination, as it is on Michael Brauer's plugin list. That is good enough for me to look at it again.

And one I stumbled upon recently is called Muramasa Morphverb via United Plugins. I think they are crazy for it priced at almost 200 bucks, but it's nice enough to warrant checking out a demo. Or this video overview from Udi Zisser's channel that I should have watched 2+ years ago. It reminds me a little bit of Synplant2's interface with the big adjustable dial.
