Interesting... to me, TSAR-1 is the "non-metallic" verb...

Would you mind telling us which free ir's for spring reverbs you like? I am looking for some to use with my synth, to get that very vintage vibe that spring reverbs give. Thanks in advance!

thanks! i'm familiar with that one and was looking for a different option. definitely a solid one though. at the moment I'm using the sinevibes luminance but was curious what else people are using around these parts.

For traditional shimmering, Valhalla is of course good.
However, there's a more modern take on shimmering with reverbs like baby audio crystalline and denise perfect room. They don't have a delay in the high & low octaves compared to the main reverb, which sounds much more pleasant imo

I would rather suggest using a plugin emulation of a spring reverb as those react to the incoming audio instead of staying static.
Twangström comes to mind, using it myself and it does a great job imo. Also fairly affordable.

TSAR is extremely interesting. It sounds like a more modern version of older digital reverbs. It's like an in between of lexicon & denise perfect room. Very low metallic sounds but still sounds modulated

well it's that trade off of, do you want more of the authentic sound character of the unit or more of the authentic behavior. unfortunately there isn't a plugin yet that perfectly captures the sound of them, but in the meantime I'm happy using Audiothing Springs, Fogconvolver 2 (with past to future IRs), or Black Rooster's spring plugin, which I believe is all algorithmic.
