Fabfilter Q3 installed, keygen accepted, added FX in Reaper, but turning knobs/using tools with no effect on recording. What might be wrong? Any suggestions?

 

because of how you phrased this question, do you mean that you expect the EQ's effect to be recorded onto the audio on the way in? Or do you mean any audio file imported into your DAW and then the effect applied? The signal flow of the incoming audio hits the channel "at the fader" and then up to the plugins and other channel strip parameters. You need to "print" the effect after it has been recorded.

There are not many ways to screw things up in Pro-Q3 short of having the plugin in bypass. You should specify which release you installed to make sure others have it working correctly also. (no links). The last thing you want is incorrectly cracked Fabfilter plugins, or they can go beep!! in the night. at 0dB.

Thanks for the responses. I will try to phrase the problem more clearly. When I open Fabfilter Pro Q as a plugin in a Reaper audiofile everything looks to work fine and I can adapt all the parameters by turning knobs etc. But changing frequency or gain by turning the knobs doesn't have any audible effect. So on screen everything seems to work, but not in audio. Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong? Thank you.

 

if track isn't record armed with monitoring, you won't hear plugin doing anything,
if you want print effect during record, insert plugin as Input FX, not as a plugin on Track

 

Thanks, yes I did that, plugin as input FX, but no effect

 

Input FX effects sound coming in to the daw that you want the effect recorded directly to the file. Printed. If the file is already recorded and you want to effect it, it should not be an Input effect. It should be a regular old insert instance.

do you see signal visualization in Fabfilter Q3 plugin?
if you mute the whole track, do you hear nothing?

 

The track has already been recorded. I want to add effects. Reaper equalizer works normally, but not FF. On screen I can use all commands, knobs turn, but it doesn't add effects to the track.

Yes I see signal visualization, and muting the track works too.

 

It seems someone already has asked what type (legit or other) and version (date / team).
Also of course testing using other host (savihost, etc etc)
My guess was something with your routing
