Is there a way to extract .wav files from proprietary formats? Is there a software or other way to extract samples? For example, if you have EW Pro Drummer (.ews), can a user get to the .wav files? Or, Kontakt .n files without having the app and having to batch convert. This is NOT the answer (https://www.chickensys.com/) The software is terrible and the support is worse.

By the sound of it, you're looking for something that's still well maintained, comes with a pretty GUI and is easy to use. So basically: no.

A couple of things I've had success with:

    - Kontakt 5 and TX16Wx for AKAI CDs
    - Kontakt 5 for EXS24, GIG (and I guess SFZ, but that's not proprietary)
    - ConvertWithMoss for MPC (and DecentSampler - not proprietary)
    - VGMTrans for various console formats
    - QuickBMS for 'generic' formats
    - Automate your DAW to play the notes and render the samples to files

There's also Extreme Sample Converter which claims to support a whole range of formats - never tried it though.

Not aware of any EWS extractors. QuickBMS would be your port of call if you needed to write an extractor from scratch.

Wish I could simply get into the package and drag out the .wav files. ;-(

If you were in the 80s/90s you could use an action replay cartridge to dump the ram to a file, then load the raw data into, say, Audiomaster and then manually save out sections containing samples to files.
