    Hi all

    What I have:
    One laptop (1 vga & 1 HDMI)
    2 VGA / DVI displays

    What I need:
I want to connect both displays to make one large screen.

Is there a way to do that?
I understand that a VGA Split cable won't do the job, and that I can't use an HDMI->VGA cable because it's analog/digital issue...

    Help? :dunno:

    Thank you!

It's probably because of the limitations of the GPU inside the laptop. No laptop that I know of has a Dual Head Graphics card for such purposes, it would suck too much power and generate too much heat to be useable I imagine. Found a link that might help anyway http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/

Well I see a lot of laptops in studios, with multiple displays, so there must be a way...
Matrox is an option but an expensive one, and I heard about a simple USB video card (cheap) that will give me an extra display but without the ability to play video etc...

I guess I could get an HDMI dispaly and connect it to the HDMI + VGA display to my VGA out, but will it work?

I'm trying to figure a simple cost effective way.

Everyone using 2 screens on their studios work on a PC? no macbooks/laptops?
d-flux, thanks for the search on Matrox...

I'm not quite sure why a vga to hdmi cable wont work for you if your video card does support two monitors, personally I'd say it was worth spending £10 on one to quash any conjecture and find out if it does work either way( If it does work you might have to download some software to manage the splitting)

    Thanks SAiNT,
Although I'm still not sure how to "cable-connect" those 2 displays to my single laptop, before I can even try to think about "managing" them...
    *no*

Already googled the hell out of it before coming here.
Thanks anyway, I think I'll invest in Matrox dualhead.

Use an HDMI to DVI adapter, DVI can handle HDMI signals without issue. Those matrox adapters are a waste of money, you're computer should have no problems handling video output to two external monitors. For the HDMI-DVI adapter, use something like this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812270113

Unless his laptop is ancient, then it shouldn't be a problem. Almost all mobile graphics cards these days can handle such a task, especially since many cards can now handle outputting video to as many as 6 monitors. Even those integrated cards are powerful enough these days to handle such a task.
