I was staying with a friend, sleeping on the floor, outside London in the mid 90s - looking for work having been made redundant. We'd previously been into going into the woods in Wales, with a bunch of people, setting up sounds and playing house/trance.

But, being around London, we discovered Kiss and stumbled upon Grooverider's midnight show and we were blown away. I remember we were blasting it out and some folks from a party next door came over asking "What the hell is this? It's better than the housey-stuff next door!!!" Instant riotous party.

It sounded so good and fresh back then. After all the 4x4 of house and trance it sounded so exotic and, often, really aggressive and dark. Few years later Grooverider was on the BBC! :D

Absolutly,DnB was for me a futuristic music when I listended Roni Size for the first time in 1997,I loved this genre immediately untill now.

I have never listened another music genre that gave me this feeling of a revolutionary sound. With Dnb you can express a lot of colours, emotions, from jazz to acid to hard techno to ambient sounds.
    DnB is a vast genre.

Some people (pop fanatics) find DnB sounds always the same but for me it's totally the contrary.

Damn, if you ask me as Drum & Bass addict who recorded DnB radio stations all night long on tape back in the days,
I like that kind of funky DnB very much atm.

    Haha!
Can't properly come out to play right now :(
Been dealing with a huge plumbing problem since yesterday, (in bathroom, not a physical problem!) still having to empty out containers every two hours until we get the part or a plumber actually turns up.

BUT, I can already see that @electriclash has catered for some of what I consider that!
'Conquering Lion' would be one of them, as would the Shy Fx track 'Original Nuttah'. Nice one! Coz I'm terrible with track names of this time and genre. I'm just a musician! I'd need some time searching on YT for what I remember.
Ah, just reminded me of the General Levy/M-Beat/Shy Fx track 'Incredible'.
It was sooo huge at the time.

Incidentally, a quick scan showed that @wasgedn mentioned JumpUp.
We in the UK knew that as JumpUp DnB.
But then how could "DnB1" be so?

C u laters. After plumbing sorted.

my initial response to "acid" was "it all sounds the same". I thought it was all rubbish.

I remember saying, I bet the next one goes "dush dush dush dush"

And then I took XTC. And "dush dush dush dush" was the best thing in the world. :D

And then "dush ba dush, ba dush - dush ba dush, ba dush" was amazing!

It still is, though 25 years has its effect. Sad I suppose, but inevitable, I guess.

Nevertheless, this still sounds "new" to me.

    Yeah, ain't it so.

More LTJ: Man, I (still) love this (hooo hooo). All those summers ago........yet......

Listening to that, and thinking it's 25 years old.............doesn't make sense.
