Ok, here we go, lets talk about this genre, its roots & samples / breaks gear, its protagonists, its impact on electronic music & gear, and most interesting for me, its most fundamental iconic tunes thruout the genres evolution!

after the breakbeat era of early Xl Recordings & Suburban Base,the first vinyls(jungle/d&b) that i got my hands on was one from Dom & Roland & a compilation double vinyl from Fabio & Grooverider (Their radio show on Radio 1 BBC was legendary)

I remember ragga jungle got popular for a minute....
Roni Size with his Roland s760 samplers created his jazz d&b style....
....intelligent drum & bass ...what a great era ...Ltj Bukem...

I like Dub Phizix so much,Noisia brought so mush to the scene,Goldie's both albums are Masterpieces.

Liquid drum & bass was/is defined for me by the one & only : Calibre

most used sounds in all eras are the reese bass & the amen break...

D&b for me is one of the most true & honest scenes of the electronic genres ....

One of the earliest in D & B was Genocide, which was heavily influenced by Hip Hop, and Satin Storm which used to lean towards a "Detroit Sound".

seriously good fresh jungle made the old fashioned way on the Amiga with octamed and akia samplers

 

Living in the US I had been exposed to quite a bit of jungle & raga breaks only through the rave circuit.. but that was only deep in the nights and it took a while to grow on me (vs straight up 4/4 house, mid-tempo breaks and acid parties). But when it clicked I fell hard ❤️⚡❤️ .. I think the first record I had that I would reach to play at home was

Same story! Super limited exposure from my hometown also. Definitely dug it, bought some records thinking I was going to try spinning some dnb but the tempos/rythms wooped my ass.
