Is this what karma looks like for not buying anything? I've been doing this on and off for a long time and it's always the same shit. I swear every project I spend 3 months on somehow magically gets deleted or disappears or gets corrupted every single time. I don't understand it. Project files literally just disappearing into thin air for absolutely no reason. I spent the past 3 weeks slaving over this song and I wake up this morning and its greyed out under the recent projects, first one at the top greyed out and missing from the project folder. I look in my recycle bin and its the only file in there with a 7/2/22 date on it??? and I restore it and its what it looked like 3 weeks ago... like what??? LOL. Does this make any sense?? This is not the first this has happened by a long shot.

Let's see if I understood correctly.
Something on your pc deletes the files for you? If so, I think the answer is clear, a virus.
A long time ago I found a very malingo virus that was eating the whole disk, it left me without space in minutes, I realized that it was a virus that everything that was in "my documents" created a new folder and I duplicated them there.
If you think it's "revenge" for not buying the plugins,I'd write it off, I don't think so. Something got into your pc.

just buy 1 thing next time, maybe it wont happen again. It should neutralized the karma. I mean the Karma god calculation will return error and it will not be executed.

You would think. I don't use this for even downloading anything. I have a shit laptop for everything and then transfer everything over. I use my good computer for Live and illustrator and maybe youtube and that's it. Ill close my project turn it off wake up the next day and it will just be completely gone.

"if you think its revenge for not buying plugins"

Dude, i feel for you. It's happened to me a couple of times over the years & i try now to ensure it never happens again.

Unpalatable anecdotes like this have only one positive function - to drive home an essential rule of the digital age i.e. maintain a regular (daily/weekly) offline backup policy of anything you consider truly important.

On a technical level, have you checked the integrity of the drive that's losing the data? Maybe it's time for a replacement?

... it's also possible that for some arcane reason your system's antiviral software is periodically flagging your project files as infected and therefore quarantining them. Might be worth investigation...

In which DAW is this happening? The only Thing which is preventing from getting a Virus is test everything first in a Sandbox or use something like Voodoo Shield which blocks everything that was not there before the Installation + it got a sandbox Feature to Test. Also good to see if you where hijacked is to use a Programm to check your active ports and something like glasswire to see where your traffic is going to. And Stick to the Team which you believe in (For me this R2R).

I'm pretty sure your DAW has the option to save backups. Enable those.
It's also good to save different versions of the project, so that you have different ones to go back to if shit hits the fan.

Do you have single access to the computer or does someone else have access to it (who's deleting files)?

I've never had this happen to me and I've been at it since 1995.

And it can be, maybe it's a virus, but I should also delete other things, why only projects?
I agree with what the others said, it could be the disk or, that the antivirus marks the projects as viruses, that makes a lot of sense.
Or it could also be as Recycle says, it is helping you to leave the best projects and discard the ones that will not be successful xD

You've got a binary ghost haunting your hard drive for sure. I've seen this all before. You need to contact a shaman (preferably Peruvian) who will guide you on a ayahuasca spirit animal journey to hopefully rid yourself of the bad juju. Best of luck, fellow traveler, fare thee well and happy trails my friend.

Do you use Avast Antivirus? This sounds kinda like it's folder protection to me.

Avast blocks every program from saving files to the documents folder and other personal folders
so if you save a project, Avast prevents your DAW from dropping the updated project files into that folder.
Normally an error should appear that your DAW couldn't save it correctly but if that doesn't happen,
you basically saved nothing and your project remains in its previous state.

The only way is to turn off folder/ransomeware protection for your DAW and all the other music tools that
use the documents folder or to turn off that feature in Avast completely.

Another thing could be a temporary files cleaner like CCleaner.
If you set a wrong folder there, it'll delete that folder or its contents everytime you run it.
I had this issue with a Firefox Addon - everytime after running CCleaner, the settings I made got reset to default.
