    @superliquidsunshine

    Nice to see you posting again, I hope you are doing well.

    Workflow and enjoyment of the task are of paramount importance. I do not think anyone will argue with the idea that whatever works best for you, works best for you. There are a few instances where my old and temperamental analog pieces are still far easier and much more enjoyable to work with than anything that is provided inside the of the computer.

    Best Wishes,

    @subGENRE

    You should try to get some analog items, if for no other reasons than to answer those questions for yourself. For me the most notable differences in ease of obtainable results have always come from the differences between digital and analog compression. I am not poo-pooing digital compression mind you, similar and almost indiscernible results can be achieved either way, I just get there quicker and have a slight bias towards analog compression.

    A 500 series rack and a few comps and equalizers cost less now than 1 rack space used to just a decade ago, it is a good time to explore.

    hard to know what i said. tube emulation software sounds cool but not like a real tube . tube is part of some eq plugin circuite. so i know they sounds cool but not like original . i know there is differ from divece to device but there is bigger differ betveen every device and plugin and even betveen emulation company like ua and waves. just comapre cla 76 with ua ! in action ! in sounding ! in differnt situaton.

    My favorit mastering EQ is DMG EQUALITY in Linear Phase mode.
    It glues the whole mix when you listen carefully.

    You need at least 145 VST equalisers, otherwise your production will suck. :rofl:

    So to make a sucky production, you will need:

    Equality, Pro-Q, PrimeEQ or EQuick, HarmoniEQ, and DDMF 6144 [v1.1.1 with a sane looking GUI] + Marvel and Overtone GEQ - for mixing

    and Pro-Q, CurveEQ, Marvel and Overtone GEQ - for mastering.

    In other words, IIR parametric and graphical EQs for mixing, FIR and linear phase EQs for mastering. It's not just about IIR vs FIR vs Linear Phase, or phasing against ringing, but also latency. IIR EQs are usually made to work without any latency whilst LP and FIR always have some. LP EQs can have really drastic latency to try avoid ringing artefacts. To avoid ringing artefacts, LP EQs are usually used with wide BW, plus-minus a few DBs, and for nothing surgical.

    Then again, one should just use ears, for either mixing or mastering. No rules apply. It also depends on the material you're working with, as in tracked through analogue equipment, or made ITB. Digital saturation might be undesirable in many cases. :wink:

    Happy mixing and mastering! :wink:

    p.s. These great Marvel and Overtone EQs are free! Courtesy of Alexey Vaneev, AKA Voxengo.

    Fuse VQA-154, great eq, people that rely on Psp E27 praise the Fuse one as a alternative to the psp!

    I see you are new here, welcome to the Forum. For your info, people here have seen and used more plugins than your average Joe. Just to give you an idea. The latest Lindell plugins bundle was seen by almost 14,000 of us. The one before that one by almost 11,000 and the one in 2016 by a mere 30,000.:yes: Certainly, Lindell is old news here. On the other hand, some members may not have seen the hardware Lindell but could have seen and used the Pultec on which the Lindell is based. Count me among those.

    I just tried the VST the other day and was blown away. I thought I must have been weird because nobody mentions Lindell but in my ears, it sounds sooooo good.

    It is not about how hard it is.
    Mixing and mastering has an discipline factor.
    It depends on the material you get dilivered an then make a choice to elevate or not, some elements in that mix.
    That is pure mastering.
    Some elements don't have to change in volume or equalizing.
    The best way to master a song is to make the master in a studio where the creator of that song is also listening to the changes.

    Lindell 80 Channel & Bus sounds great to my ear, have to be careful with the preamp i would say, and the oversampling choice alters the sound (8 or 16 x sounds very good, although cpu intense), and u can choose from no, soft or hard clipping (the original neve tone is the hard clipping mode).
    The magic comes when u put the 80 bus on ....eh... busses. Sounds great on mixbus (again the oversampling is crucial i think)

    the three most important "mastering EQ plug-ins" are:

    - good speakers

    - the right room

    - perfect ears

    then yes, you could also use software instead of hardware if you have a good reason to do so.

    which software you use doesnt matter much though.
