I've never really known to apply corrective EQ to sample libraries, but the more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know.

Working on a piccolo track right now (lol which is the first problem). It's from Orchestral Tools Berlin Woodwinds. It's a pretty good library, but the instrument has a very tin like sound that makes it sound very not-real.

What are your basic go-to procedures for EQing orchestral sample libraries? Chart form would be preferable and may or may not get you cookies sent to your house.

I go surgical on the instrument channel insert(s), if the ring/noise is consistent across the whole library. I like to use ApQualizr2 or Pro-Q2 EQ.

nasty resonant frequencies usually around 245 Hz , 540 Hz and 2kHz. notch them all out with a narrow q eq.

    Tin-y as in metallic/bright.

Isn’t that how a piccolo snare should sound? Maybe instead of changing a piccolo’s tone, you could beef it up by layering a brass snare sample or something to add more body to it. You could also boost around 700k to raise its bottom fundamental.

Always let your ear be the judge.
You learn using an EQ best by practicing for yourself.
EQ is IMHO still the most important of all audio "effects".

Totally dumb of me. You’re right. :mates:
I totally narrowed my mind to the world of guitar rock music where I belong. My bad.

I agree, but in order to master the EQ there are very useful advices, like the narrow sweep boosting of which what @korte1975 said is a good possible case, or result I should say.
