    Hi guys,
I'm looking for an EQ which removes certain frequencies completely? Most EQs available would reduce frequency with certain slope per octave. For instance Pro-Q has a maximum slope of 96 db/oct.
I am looking for an EQ which can completely remove frequencies like you do in a Audio Spectrum Editor. Something more surgical that common EQs and their notch filters. I have tested couple of parametric EQs like Q10 but it does not give me the result I want.
    I need a real-time EQ

It's pretty simple if you know the frequency, I can do it precisely using Samplitude FFT Filter or Izotope RX7 :shalom:

In plugins you also have spectrumworx and specops (plugin alliance/unfiltered audio)....Work at spectral levels and include various filters and eqs.

    Pro-Q 3 has a brickwall slope. :)

Notch? ApQualizr2 is great. So is Pro-Q3. Naaaarrow band.

The free RubberFilter by Christian Budde has 384dB/Oct brickwall slope that you can use in bandpass or bandreject.

Izotope rx. Selected any range (frequency / time) and cut or apply gain at - inf dB.
If cut lows or dc offset, use any filter cut at lowest frequency, any Q, but IIR only (digital mode on dmg eqs), not FIR, because with even max IR length it can't cut dc properly. FIR is the worst in cutting near-0Hz area. IIR can do that precisely even with 12dB/oct at lowest frequency. But IIR is worse than FIR at near nyquist frequency.

RsMet engineersfilter, acon equalize2, apqualizr2, proQ3 with brickwall filter...
    Notch filter, bandstop, bandpass filters.

AIR Kill EQ (Air Music Technology) with 'kill' bands
    Works even better maybe?

If you want the 3d spectrum type..

Just use the plugin version of iZotope RX 7.

Or.. use a more basic real-time plugin like..

A comb filter is another option. "Removing a frequency" in practice usually means removing a tone with all its overtones, so a comb filter might be more effective.

Also, if you need more than brickwall, just copy brickwall over another brickwall. But the question is about phase distortions, ringing, harsh sounding transition from signal to silence, transient smearing/loss/reshaping etc...

    Hi dear friend,
how do you know if a filter you use is IIR or FIR?I've already read what is IIR and FIR but I haven't really understood what are their pro and cons and their consequences on the audio,in concrete terms.
I use Pro-Q for surgical needs when mixing;how do I know which of its filters are IIR or FIR??When I must use one and not the other?
    Could you enlignten me,please?

Which plugin are you referring to in RX7 bundle? RX7 EQ does not have Steep slope EQ as I want!?

Any plugin for effective comb filtering which allows comb filtering different frequencies at the same time?

SpecOp is a creative tool (versus corrective) and its process happen live, you can have several bands of frequencies you remove, and modulate them dynamicaly inside the plug (unfiltered audio has a great mod system). It's exactly what you seem to seek.
