    Hey all

I'm trying to keep only the vocals on a certain track (acapella).
Is there any setting for doing that through EQ? What freq do I need to remove? (Working with Cubase 5 and Waves if needed)

    Thanks, again.

I do this a lot and there are no specific settings/eq that work with every track.
i use adobe audition's stereo imagery effect that i combine with quik quak's mashtactic and an eq where i play around with band to get a clean cut.
i sometimes use sony's spectral layers which can do a very good job but hard to master, same with melodyne's single track. Even adobe
audition's noise reduction can do it when capture "noise" profile where there's no vocal and apply it on vocal parts (works great with acoustic tracks)

Try these but since they're just dealing with frequencies you won't really get the perfect acapella (the human voice shares a lot of frequencies with other
instruments) but you'll have something you can use for bootleg. Hope it helps.

Ive tried before and quit after a LOT of frustration. It takes a ton of work and most times still sounds garbage. Unless its vocals over kick and bass alone or something but this is very rarely the case for a full track at least.

Ill never even attempt to extract vocal from a full track again :snuffy:

i agree there. you will lose to much information from the vocals and itll sound like a bad AAC 24kbit/s of the vocal.

I've spent quite a bit of time with this also, But usually I just do it for [Metal/Rock] remixes where the vocals are just there fill the rewrite and I don't usually care about losing too much quality.

For EQ you can always drop the bass to get rid of the bass drum & bass , if you increase the treble the vocals will come out more but it also makes any snare/clap and highhats quite a bit louder too. You can get a little further by using stereo separation into the negitive and I'll help a little. After this if you can chop the left/right of the track beyond -45/+45 and layer it under the eq'd track but quieter you can get a slightly better version. It's not ideal or super quality in anyway, but it can help if you just need it for writing or demo.
