Hey guys! I've been trying to do some new stuff recently, but i'm unable to make a good melody. I just sit down and think of a melody, but there's nothing to inspire me. So, can you give me some tips on how to make good and epic melodies, like DVBBS, Hardwell or others?

I usually stop to listen to the musicians that made me want to be a musician.

don't think too much about it , just open your laptop or MACBOOK , your hand on your keyboard ,
don't be negative just be positive And run your plugins and start doing what u need to be done
    use your feeling ,
if you are angry you will make angry music
if you are happy you will make happy music ,
it's all about the sub-conscience i use it a lot and it's work for me
and since that time i don't stop making music that i want
PS :: becareful a friend of mine just start collecting plugins (vst/vsti/libraries) since then he never make any new music for almost 4 months
so i tell don't force yourself if u feel u can't make anymore music just take afew days off , and clear you head and start over believe me you will get the job done after that

If you wanna be a composer you certainly cant depend on "inspiration"... :excl:
Do you know any worker that depens on ispiration do do some job? :wow:
Imagine all the metropolis stopped because everybody do not have inspiration?
    Do no be LAZY!!! :dunno:
    Beethoven said:
1% of inspiration but 99% of transpiration!
Of course you could be a Mozart (i dont this so) that the music flows all the time because his father forced to study music a LOT, but the real humans WORK to achieve something.
I hate the idea that amateurs have about romanced art inspiration, inspiration can be a trigger, but also think about something can be...
I hope you start to compose everyday, do improvisation and only hard work will conquer something good.

 PS a REAL melody is actually really hard to achive as the vast majority of the music are only lots of BASS

Hard work and improvisation. Sometimes the hard work can be taking a nice stroll in the forest and melody, chord progression or beat "will come to you" (sometimes all three at the same time). Record on portable recorder or on mobile phone.
That, or just create things until it flows out of you (no matter how shitty it is, as long as you keep creating/making things). Let your critical thinking throw itself out the window.

Let me give you a tip.

Try to compose in your head a melody then sing it loud or whistle it and see how it sounds. If you like it but you're in a park or somethin', record it it on your phone just to make sure you don't forget it.
After you arrived in your studio/home-studio or whatever, make sure you have a dynamic microphone (if you have a condenser, that's even better), create a project in your main daw, set a BPM close to the speed of the melody you had in your mind, create a track, arm it, activate your metronome, put your headphones on, then start and record it (by singing or whistling, depending on what's comfortable for you). After you recorded it, load a instance of Melodyne on that track and transfer that track into Melodyne, selecting the "Melodic" option on the Algorithm menu tab. Then go in the top left corner "Settings" menu and select "Save as MIDI". Now you have your melody as a midi file, import it in that project, load a synth or whatever instrument you may like and now: * If you don't know that much about chord progressions, ask a pianist friend to help you out.* Render that melody as mp3 file and send it to your friend and ask him/her to tell you what chord progression you should use for that melody. Once he/she tells you the chord progression, everything else is cakewalk, you will already know what to do next. But if you already know alot about music theory, then you will skip that "friend" step. ಠ_ಠ...ಥ_ಥ

P.S.: sometimes this motha'fuckin' technology helps the inspiration when you use it with that purpose. :bleh:

    Cheers! [IMG]

Let me ask you a question: do you know music theory? I ask because there are rules that govern what makes a melody good and perhaps they could help. Balance, Motives, Tonality, etc.

    Sometimes stubbornness/perseverance wins over theory.
Sometimes talent and musicality wins over stubbornness/perseverance.

Also, lol at "epic melodies, like DVBBS, Hardwell or others". :) You might have better luck thinking in terms of kindergarten-tunes when coming up with "epic melodies". That said, simplicity is key - but it can be very hard to destill things to their essence, especially if you have no previous theory, experience, improv skills, understanding of rhythm, etc.
