Using Win10 with FL Studio 20. Love Emulator X3 sound and plugin but it's pretty unusable in real projects when the plugin won't load libraries every time. The plugin loads up blank and I have to go to update library for presets to show up, needless to say this means when I open up new projects where I've used only x3 it's impossible for the projects to work. Has anyone had the same problem and found a fix?

I'm using the 64bit Vst. Thanks.

Yeah. I stopped using it for the same reason. I had an X-Board as well and that didn't make it stable for me either. Its a shame because the filters are really nice in the E-Mus

Does it function ok in an empty DAW session? (any daw). I'd setup a silly template for it and use it as a loop maker. Put midi in, load your patches, bounce them out as audio and call it a day.

Can you not export FXP Presets made in the Emu x3 into Halion ?

Or failing that, There is a thing from Microsoft (I forget what its called) that allows you to create old operating systems such as XP from within your current O/S. That way you can install a DAW plus all the old VST which no longer work with stability.

    Just an idea.

I figured something out , in your current folder with all your e-mu libraries, use a program like Everything and search ".exb" in that folder - now copy every .exb file into your new 'Library' folder . After that do the same for the term 'SamplePool' . Now you have all your exb files in one folder, and all the samples in a folder called 'Samplepool' . Now you can use the emulator x3 'Open Bank' function as a library , and Ex3 will always load up the preset. You dont have to update the library every time.

@Sylenth.Will.Fall I use emulator X3 as a source of new sounds for the Independence sampler, as I remember correctly, I can convert this sounds using Chicken Systems Translator 7.
Don't worry, these libraries will have a new life, as soon as I have time for it

I wonder if Translator is still as much pain and suffering. The most "up to date current" one, whatever that might be by now.

I think I tried something on these lines that failed for me. As clone said the best solution is to print as you go... But if you work on a revolving Template kind of approach I don't think this software is reliable enough to use it seriously. You'd be better with another emulation...

There's a reason they abandoned it. Same with the Proteus. I always had issues with that legit software with my X-Board and the shit tonne of free CDs I got with it. I think its so old it was programmed badly and then abandoned and this was nearly 20 years ago. Its probably written for Windows XP... With that in mind you might get better stability if you can run it in XP Compatibility Mode, if that's possible as a plugin

I think yes. I vaguely remember using it with the X3 from r2r and giving up pretty quickly. I got so spoilt in recent years, not having to save presets and write shit down :D just hitting save on the DAW so I look at something like Chicken and I'm like, yeah no thanks

My X3 loads up blank randomly in projects and randomly crashes. I've been trying to figure out what causes it so I can avoid doing it... Wish it was stable. I'm actually considering buying some of the hardware units...

    Hello!!

It crashes because, at the time, they never envisioned that you'd have that many libraries. The solution is extremely simple:

    IGNORE the library tab COMPLETELY.

Next to that tab is a SYSTEM tab that loads the file tree like Windows explorer does. Use the System tab and ONLY the SYSTEM tab.

The reason the library tab exists is to "audition" sounds, which is was necessary at the time X3 was made because they only had spinning hard disk drives (HDDs), so they had to load snippets or it would be very slow.

If you have a solid state drive (SSD), which almost everyone does now, or at least you have external one to keep your libraries on, then the LIBRARY tab is obsolete because the SSD, by dint of it lacking moving parts, loads them so quickly "auditioning" is irrelevant . . .

SYSTEM tab on an SSD works fast enough so that LIBRARY can be ignored completely, and should be, because it will crash every time once you go beyond a certain number of libraries . . .

This is one of the reasons I stopped using it.

This is unfortunate because there are a lot of good E-mu libraries around but since it's abandoned, there's zero chance Creative will fix any issues.

I would say that it's time to move on unfortunately.

So far that really seems to be the only issue. Like I said, if you keep the library small, it would work. The system tab works just fine loading the whole preset on an SSD. The appeal is that the program, compared to modern day ones, is very light weight. You can load two instances of it and stack them, send them through different DSP chains . . . Plus Akai discs, via Chicken Systems Translator, translate quite well.

Most Ensoniq stuff does, too. Sometimes organs fail, probably something proprietary (or I have an older version of translator). There are literally hundreds of good libraries for it.
