    Check this out:

Does it do anything to quell your antipathy towards sampling?

If we just assume "music = playing with sounds until us and our target audiences get amused", yes nothing wrong with anything but if other points of view to the music are considered so we should devise other ways of compositions. Some people would say other ways are more smart but I don't allege that.:)

    More considerations = Less choices

Lol, the 2nd record he's playing "I'm out to catch" is a 45" rpm not a 33" hahaha. It's obvious he doesn't do it deliberately, he's stoned to the bone lol .

But he's got skills though, right? Who can flip a Beethoven sample like that?

What can i say man. I mean i know his work and yes he's got skills alright but not in this vid, imho. Still, the rhythm roulette series is funky enough to watch, some ppl definetely have skill. For me sampling is like abc when you know two things. A lot of past music and what to do with a sampler.

    it was.. customized..

however that sale put the kontrol s88 in the room but it was a fine machine and I always feel a tinge when I see old friends ;) a5000 complete should fetch.. hmm.. 350/400 maybe?

*quick ebay search turned up an a5000 for $400 with half maxed memory and in decent condition. No disks etc- Could be worth listing at 550/600? Are you using it? I cry but it was really just living in its case, tucked away for years already...

Is it a better experience sampling onto a keyboard or sampling onto a DAW? Do keys make a difference?

@black.afrika.zulu.x nothing more pleasing than getting positive endorsements about one's method of composition but invest on other methods too for the time when you'd change your mind and find other styles of music more artistic if you don't want to get depressed like me.:bleh::rofl:

IMO there is definitely something strong to be said for the tactile experience. when the process becomes second nature, hardware sampling becomes more an 'extension of thought' and (practically) not having to look up when trimming/looping lends itself to a more.. fluid.. involvement... It took me a while to truly become fluid on that asr; I used to carry that gd manual with me on the train, highlighting almost every page, trying to 'read between the lines'... then one day about a month or so in; an arc of sampler and internal sequencing principals came flooding into me, both big-concept and practical application. It was an epiphany for sure and an experience I'd never trade.

aw.. I went to the other room to take a pic of the manual for you but I included them in the sale

It's certainly true that lack of physicality compromises the groove sometimes...
