does anyone have an alternative to say?

You could try Spitfire Sable Vol1... it is available for ca. 500 € and is about 80 Gigs... Sounds awesome

 

Jokes aside, you can get Garritan Personal Orchestra or East West Symphonic Orchestra Silver. East West library is better sounding but not as cute as Edirol or Garritan.

 

If you're interested in a violin solo you can check the Garritan Stradivari or the more recent Friedlander violin. Both for Kontakt but the first one is out of sale.
If you're looking instead for small string sections (trio, quartets et similia) you should check out Dan Dean Solo Strings (a bit old but the samples are just wonderful).
For more wide ensembles and orchestra it's very difficult to find something good for Kontakt unless you go for the superexpensive LASS. Otherwise the strings included in the Kontakt library that come from Vienna Instruments are pretty good.

 

if u want something light,garritan is the answer,and with very good sounds,not only for its pice,but in general,u can use the violun in garritan personal orchestra 4,or garritan solo violin,but this one giaves me some probles with the latest version of kontakt during playback

 

As he^ said, Garritan Personal Orchestra could do the trick. Or perhaps Garritan Instant Orchestra. Both have installers around the 1GB mark (atleast on windows).

For something even lighter, you could try Luxonix Purity [ http://luxonix.com/purity.html ] which is about 111MB installed. But it might need a bit more configuration, especially if you have lots of instruments.

There may be some free Violin packs for Kontakt floating around.
