so I made an AMAZZZZZZZING arp in Dune 3, its absurd how killer it is... but how tf do I grab it into an actual MIDI file? I dunno. please help!

I was thinking about how to use any VSTinstrument's (for example) ARP preset's ARP with my hardware synth

For example I have very cool ARP presets in xfer Serum (DIVA, and so on...) but instead of the synth playing the ARP I want Serum to trigger my MODEL D hardware synth module with the same ARP is it possible to route this in Ableton?
I never tried I can't figure out

 

AFAIK, you neither can export the arp in any way, nor does Dune output it as MIDI notes, it's just an internal processing.

Thanks for the suggestions. It was more a question of if its possible, rather than generally how to recreate MIDI.

I have tried most if not all these methods, but usually not 100% accurate and some ways can be very time consuming which is why I was wondering if theres an easy grab drag drop or menu export feature in Dune of some kind that I missed. Guess not. I seem to recall in the older version of Dune it had a folder with the preset MIDI inside, but it was a long time ago so not sure if I save a new preset will it generate that file or not. I'm no expert on Dune, obviously.. nice synth, but this is somewhat annoying. I'll dig around to find it again or stick to the old manual method of recreating it.

 

Dune users have been requesting this for ages. But there simply seems no way to convert this 100% accurately to Midi currently. Unless the developer implements this...

 

I remember years ago there being something from Xfer records called Cthulhu. it took me ages to set it up but I believe that will take any sound you make from a synth, and provide you with plenty of arp presets as well as your own.

 

Unfortunately there is no drag and drop function in Dune.
Why don't you take some screenshots of your settings and back them up.
Name the pics like the preset and soundbank name - that way you can find your settings again.

 

Xfer's Cthulhu still exists. I probably should have spent more time figuring out how it works, but I didn't use it a lot, myself. Most people really like it though. But there is a vast selection of arpeggiators, sequencers, random MIDI generators, etc. that would get the job done.

@terrific! It's a bit late now on this "AMAZZZZZZZING arp" you created, but I'd say in the future to stop limiting yourself by using the Dune arp that forces you to use Dune to generate the audio. If you are working with sister-site software, Arturia Pigments has a great arp/sequencer built into it that will feed MIDI to other sources (including DUNE), I believe u-He Hive does this too, Kirnu Cream, and many others.. plus there's even a lot of free stuff out there too (BlueArp, Randarp, for example). Then of course there are random MIDI generators for a whole different kind of unique sound.

 

If vsti synth support only internal midi processing it's not possible. But for example Arturia Pigments does support external midi processing. So you can use it's midi "engine" only, to play external vsti synth.

 

I would slow the tempo down by 2 or 4x, open another instrument and just plug in the notes by ear. This shouldn't take longer than 15 minutes unless you wrote a 100 bar melody or something. You could also use those pitch detection softwares. I have tested them but no longer use them I think Zplane has a pitch detecting VST. If you use FL studio you could detect the notes in Edison, but it may not be perfect and you'll have to use your ears to verify it is correct. Melodyne would most likely work as well, but I don't use it.
