the virus always was quite cold and gritty due to the lack of upsampling, while waldorf Q was the exact opposite of that.

i am not sure if that makes a synth really "better" than another.

and i mean if you have both, you dont need to use the virus for bells, isnt it?

cracking "uncrackable" 20 years old plug-ins with hardware protection only to make them run in a hardware emulator, while you have to write a new GUI for them and while you can get the real hardware including legit software for under 100 USD?

sounds like a great idea. do you want fries with that?

uncrackable? This is news to me?

    also news to me?

why would a new GUI be needed? Just use the originals

A fully loaded one for under 100 USD? Really? Where?

Oh, for sure. It's very subjective to even be interested in synths like these, nevermind picking between them. And if I were to have both, I'd heavily consider using the Virus for the supersaws :).

1 - You don't need to create a new GUI. PoCo has its own GUI.
2 - You clearly missed the point of the whole project.

roboto was talking about the requirement to decrypt them, not me.

people have been running powercore plug-ins even on other hardware platforms since day 1. but it was all but comfortable.

a GUI is more than a bunch of pictures and the powercore plug-ins are 32 bit so you have to rely on 32-lives or similar - and you never know what happens with the next macos update.

sorry if that sounds a bit mac centric...

We already know that. PoCo plugin stopped working inside OSX ages ago.

For some reason, I misunderstood this and thought the NL2 would be included. Since it's not a DSP563xxx synth, it wouldn't be able to be emulated. Not the worst thing in the world since the NL3 has the Nord sound.

I actually look very close into comparision between Nord Lead 2 and Nord Lead 3 and they sounds almost the same.
Nord Lead 2 is very subtle more harshy sometimes.
They both have good filter and resonance. Only difference here is gain on the filter.
Nord Lead 3 with much resonance and low pass cutoff is more louder at the higher frequency and quieter at lower.
Nord Lead 2 with same settings have opposite reaction is more louder at the lower frequency and quieter at higher.
But that's it. They both great and almost the same in sound.
In comparision to them Nord Lead 4 filter sounds like trash

For me Nord Lead 3 is a winner and much better than 2 because have cool intuitive interface, more presets and many more improvements and things.

It's a give and take! the Nord Lead 2 has fatter oscillators and a more 'analog' type of sound, but Nord Lead 3 has FM, osc sync, and much more modulation features. I owned the hardware NL2 at one point and it definitely sounded very much like u-he Diva but with a digital "sheen" over it.

    http://www.alanmarcero.com/

This website has soundsets for the Nord Lead 2 and 3. You can hear the differences between them pretty apparently.

It doesn't really matter imo because, either way, you'll get the Nord sound and there are other synths like the Waldorf which sound achingly analog for a VA synth. Not to mention other plugins like Diva which give you an immensely analog sound if that's your thing. I feel like character is something I'm personally after more than how analog a synth sounds since character is what makes all of these VA synths sound unique and desirable, regardless of how much they sound like a Juno or something. That's what makes all these synths or this project so exciting, because all these synths sound incredible unique to this day, regardless of how 'analog' they actually sound like. Plus, I've never actually used an NL3 before so, overall, the NL3 is more than satisfactory.

I'll also be totally honest and say that, as far as the Nord Lead 2 goes, the ancient freeware Synth1 was more desirable for me. It didn't sound as analog or 100% like the NL2, but I found it easier to program and some of the patches better sounding. The Brasses especially sounded way better to my ear on Synth1 than on the hardware.

TLDR: I'm hyped and content to have the NL3 as the available Nord synth and if you want an NL2, stick with Synth1 which is free and often sounded better :) --a previous NL2 hardware owner

How is the performance at the moment? Will it be a CPU-eater?

so far only virus b and c. more in the future. so lets start thinking about the GUI on discord.

works not that good right now, but more improvements come around for sure i guess.

Yeah, I can only imagine right now that it's a CPU-eater and not very stable. But that's okay because that's what continuing optimizations are for. Eventually it will be fast, stable, and CPU-friendly enough to produce with

It's possible. It's just that it needs more work. But the "base code" for the DSP emu is there anyways.
Also, there aren't any NL2 dumps right now.

Virus A, B and C roms are working at this moment.

At this moment, it is. A single instance easily maxes out a CPU core

I think "ReKon Audio Virus Editor" is a very good candidate for the GUI.
You can find the older version on the sister site.

"The VST Editor Series meets the Access Virus series synths! Now you can have absolute power over your Virus A, B, C, Indigo I&II, Classic, Rack, or Rack XL synthesizer. it works on all of them! A stunning VST Editor that puts all the Virus controls right at your fingertips and always within visibility, making it easier than ever to create and manipulate your sounds."

We need a whole new GUI as we need to wrap it into the .dll file, we are struggling with the GUI to be fair as none of us are graphic designers :dunno:
