Here's all I gathered so far from a couple of places: MicroQ Sounds Collection Renamed and sorted. No dupes, I think. :)

    Cheers! :headbang:

I wonder what's the difference? There is a 1000 "Phoenix" presets in this file I uploaded and they all load without a problem. I tried the Phoenix_boot_122.mid as OS for MicroQ but Reaper said "too much for me, ciao!" :) I can't remember the last time Reaper crashed on me. Oh well, now I do. :P

Trying OS v2.22 currently to see if there's any difference in CPU usage. v2.23 was released in 2012 and 2.22 in 2003 so I gather it wasn't buggy. There's no change log I could read and find out what they added or fixed.

it's a common know fact among waldorf synth owners that the phoenix editions and black versions sound better because they are black. though my microQ has an extra wow-factor added to it, i bought it from a guy who only had it for 3 months and had bought it new from a music store, with warranty and invoice to proof it, about 6 years after it was discontinued. the store had misplaced it in their warehouse and found it 6 years later. i jizzed my pants when he told me.

This synth sure is jizz inducing. :rofl:I like it better than Virus. So black version probably has better DAC and ADCs I presume, but no additional options in the OS or synthesis. I wonder what this "Phoenix_boot_122.mid" is and why is it needed (maybe it's optional?) for Phoenix edition of mQ. Anyway, the most important thing is that the presets work just like all the other mQ presets. That's over 5400 presets to play with. I just counted them.

TheUsualSuspects changed the name of the game with Osirus and Vavra. Even though I'm using Linux I don't feel like I'm missing out on something because I have access to the best soft synths there is. I can't stop playing... enjoy!

Checking out the Phoenix presets ... they're really nicely done. Question however, here at least, seeing 701 and 801 sets seem to be identical.

Where'd you come up with this? The blue and yellow versions are basically identical. They do often sell used for a little bit different prices, with the yellow one going a little higher so you can have a banana in the rack.

Statik said that black ones sound better so I assumed they must be using better AD/DA because that's the only thing that could make them sound better. Or maybe it's one of those #audiophile things... Magic cables, or in this case colour. I would like to buy a black one just because I like black. I wouldn't like having a banana in my rack, yes. :rofl:But when a banana sounds like this... I don't think I'd care.

@wuzzle I haven't made it that far yet. Thanks for reporting dupes. I knew there should be some.

no, it's the black coating on the exterior that has less acoustic resonance and better noise cancellation. but if i had to choose between getting hit in the face with a banana or a phoenix i would choose the banana, actually i've been hit in the face with a banana and it wasnt that bad tbh. also it's the best option when a big german biker is trying to pull down your pants yelling "you get your banana!"... (youtube sex banana's industrial. i'm not gonna post that video here)

What makes them sound better is sending all the sub outputs into a better mixer 10 years later, or completely ITB like this :)

Marketing can get away with saying a lot of things to revive stagnant sales numbers; we'd really have to track down original IPL's for each product. (illustrated parts list). Even then, sometimes they will supercede the part number to a "new part", but all that is actually different is that they are received into inventory using a new number internally (for the same part). The original vendor can even change their part numbers for the same components. The Audio In I do not believe it is even converted; rather it is hardwired.

The color thing is a long running joke amongst Waldorf and its user community since like 2001. It started on their old mailing list between the yellow and blue Q models and made its way into the Microwave family (the Green Machine is the fattest sounding!) and the MicroQ later.

They're exactly the same as the stock blue and yellow mQs. I can't recall if they were upgraded to 75 voices or not like the microQ Omega was.

Great synths, no matter the colour. I can't believe this is all DSP from more than 20y ago. Incredible. Waldorf VSTis don't sound this good.
