@ArticStorm I would steer clear of any of those Kawai if I were you!
I had one of the standalone (rack, but not) types in '90 and it was rather naff! Luckily it was given to me!
Something to do with my first band being called Kay-Wai Klimax by the original members!

Which is what I came to say; don't forget about the rackmount versions of those, particularly the D-50.
Although with that one you would be missing out on the Aftertouch if your controller doesn't have it.

Indeed and many other disadvantages of software based solutions.
I had a room a hardaware and many synths, atm I only have one keyboard (as masterkeyboard) left and three others lurking and picking dust, since I absolutely see no nessesarity to use them over the software I have

 

does anybody have schematics of the moogerfooger freqbox, maybe i can recreate in modular or voltage

That modular synth was a self build project.
Dont really have the time nowadays to play with them tho.. thinking of maybe even selling

A computer with a proper controller ( most DSP synths are this anyways) can be as or even more expressive as an ancient hardware synth.

But hey it is always a matter of preference, money and space. I am happy that I no longer have to maintain my analog 32 Channel mixer. Or Later Yamahas Digital Mixer or a Roland VS.

 

@Moonlight, how well do you know the VS? now that you mention them, I have a question for you. I have twice seen recently a 2480 locally and cheap. Since previous owners understandably wipe the hd on them, they normally will have a demo song on it and that's it. But the hd usually fails later out into the disk... when you have stuff on it

Short of filling the hd, how can you tell if it is already defective? or would you just factor a new one in, and if you happen to know what is a realistic replacement cost now? thanks.

 

uhh ohh, hm long time ago, all I remember is that the HDD enclosure had a vey annoyiong small fan. I would rather think twice investing is such old legacy "computer" stuff

En nuestra temprana carrera utilizamos mucha material analógico y siempre los hemos usado. Martin tiene adicción a eBay y compra sintetizadores, pedales de guitarra... Continuamente llegan cajas con ese material al estudio. Tienen un sonido totalmente diferente al de los sintentizadores digitales. Los usamos mucho en el álbum, pero su sonido no es retro sino en general bastante moderno.
