I've mentioned this on a few occasions and in my opinion this is the weakness in private torrent sites:

I don't think I understand, many VPN try to prevent any type of control by avoiding any type of logs or stored data so if somebody requests them, the will give nothing. Am I wrong?

 

Yes, most VPNs do store logs and getting to the bottom of which ones are better is not as easy as you might think. In fact this was one of the ways they caught up to an Anonymous member who thought he was protected but this turned out not to be the case. This is exactly the article and VPNs I was pointing out. Some of them are simply top notch if they can garantuee their points entirely.

 

What worries me is that this all gets nullified if they push laws to force VPNs to store logs in the name of "national security". I guarantee you that as more people sign up, more actions will be taken against providers. Visa is already beginning to cease payment processing for VPN service purchases. There's an article floating around here about that, I put it up pretty recently. Then there's another one about authorities decrypting VPNs and TOR that I put up with this batch of articles just now.
