such a disappointment. i bought akai mpc studio for my little studio and now when i was about to register the activation website didnt even work which means i could not activate my pc and download all the software

then windows 11 and the hardware and software does not even work.. i should bought native instruments maschine instead. such a embarassing tactic from akai.

Good to know that Akai is also not what it used to be. I wouldn't count on NI, either. Any hardware that needs lots of software to be useful is a flop from the get go in my book. If it works standalone and the software is there as a bonus you can use if you want, great.

Hey Kate, gosh I was just going to post about the same thing except reversed. I just bought the Maschine MK3 and the stupid serial number they gave me doesn't work so I looked into it and it's a known problem and has to be addressed by their customer service team. Who knows how long that will take, so in the meantime I started looking at alternatives and ran across the AKAI MPC1+. It was just a little more money and had some better features, but I am curious if you've changed your mind about the AKAI product you've had issues with. Did you get it working? thanks kate!

im just gonna put this out there, I work for a rather large music store in the states and i know we along with the other big one in the states offer minimum 45 day return policy if you bought it new just return it ( i know Akai"s website is a hot mess) very dependent on what browser you have. i do know too one of the big retailers in Deutschland offer returns as well but no cash back store credit only.

I bought an MPC One+ in April. :) I'm a little slow getting around to using it properly, but I love the thing. It's easily worth the $699 US I paid. I've had various Akais since the S1000 in the 90s and the machines have always outlasted my use for them. They're well-made, the rotary encoders and pads are top notch.

BTW, there's a huge OS update ("MPC 3") currently in beta which adds disk streaming and all kinds of other features. Akai keeps updating the One/Live/X (they all run the same system), so I'm sticking around for it.

If you have any questions about the One's features, just holler.

Bought an Akai MPK261 for $700+, and one key was broken/malfunctioning. They don't even test their products.

ANYTHING "crossed" is a problem by nature.

    Dongle + software
    Hardware + online activation
    Hardware + mandatory software
    ... and on and on

That's why, to me, "generic" MIDI hardware + computer screen feedback is the best way to do thing.
    Or hardware standalone.

Since most serious DAW integrated controller feedback on screen (studio one control link, cubase midi remote ...), i see less and less the point of "display redundancy". You have a screen for that, and it is ALWAYS going to be bigger than the one on your controller.
But i still see the point for MPC standalone without any computer needed

As a "middle ground" solution, ipad / tablets as controllers are nice too.

So called "integration" sounds more like "jail" to me.

I can still use my old KORG padKontrol on any software
PS : NI are well known for letting their customers in the dust ... like their "Kore" mess.

Indeed... Universal Audio recently took that up a notch and locked your whole list into one combined problem for the future. As it currently stands, there is no way of updating to and beyond v11.40 without online authorization. So the Apollo is locked into hardware Apollo dongle, iLok, iLok software, UAConnect, update the firmware/operating software via UAConnect, install and authorize plugins via UAConnect.

Used to be available as a download at V11.30, but they sneaked this shit in.

So with Akai, its another example of when shit goes wrong we can't make music and exactly why we need offline installers and stuff that just works. At this point you need permission to make music using the shit you gave them money for and I think its out of order and it needs to stop.

PS you need to open an account with them (Free) this alows you to register your MPC studio and download their software.

If only there was a 1000+ page thread over at GearSpace where we've been ranting about them since they came out in 2017 about all their issues and shortcomings..

FWIW - Had my Live since 2019, never had any trouble with the registration, but I don't buy any of Akai's shit plugins for it and just use the MPC itself, if even that. Haven't even turned it on in over a year but fired it back up when the beta team got the 3.0 release last week..

you said it over 1o years ....
means you have a solid one , panel is made from metal ,display like this you only get on high price products nowadays, etc etc
    ---
alone that you need a www connection to get a hw product working is a reason to boykot them .
