I read an article a long time ago, and it said "If you mix and match plug-ins from different companies, your mix will get thinner and thinner. This is because each manufacturer uses different frequencies to make plug-ins."

I'm wondering if it is true and how you handle it.

I think that's nonsense, the clock frequency (e.g. 48 kHz) is set by the host (DAW), the plugin has to adapt to it.
A plugin can work with a different frequency internally (oversampling) though, but that won't make the sound thinner.

What can happen is that your sound gets crappy if you use too many or the wrong plugins on your tracks.
But that's an aesthetic problem, not a technical one.

We need a mod over here to move this thread to the proper sub forum cause this clearly belongs to "humor".

"Use only certified Roland Boss adapters with this Roland Boss pedal".
*14 year old me going "Ok! Sure! Sounds resonable. I just might do that"...until my electrician dad laughs at me but trying very hard to not show it*

That's how we learn most of the time - from our own mistakes or until someone joyfully corrects us.

Why? Even if it's something quite absurd it was a legit question.

This is of course justified, however, for different reasons...

    Questions you wouldn't ask?
I get it. He might be a newbie but why on earth would you want to ask about using plugins from multiple companies when you haven't educated yourself about frequencies and sample rates? even if it was a true statement that mixing with different plugins make the mix sound thinner, why are you still after "plugins from various manufactures" if what you really need is to learn how to use them?

Audio isn't LTE where every mobile operator has to comply with legislation and use a specific range of the spectrum.

And that's how their marketing people time traveled to 2020 to learn some psychology of sales.

I only use Waves because theyI only use Fabfilter because they all look similar so there must be a connection :dunno:
I also use Cakewalk plugins exclusively on my birthday to write a drum roll for when we cut the cake.

Legislators should prescribe mandatory DAW and plugin training! :guru:

(Moderator, the thread is now finally ready for the humor department)

It's not absurd to ask any question that you don't know the answer to.
btw, the answer to the OPs question is Nah man, that's garbage so take no notice and don't sweat it mate.
Conversely, those who tout themselves about as experts, peddling their big hairy bollox disquised as advice, tutorial or cure, are the ones that should be laughed out of town, and then some.

You already answered your own question

For someone to ask something like that, they must probably be a beginner in music production, therefore don't know a lot about technical stuff. That's not a reason to not answer their questions and move their threads to the humor section of the forum.

“Everybody’s gotta learn, nobody’s born knowing.”

With that being said, let me stop procrastinating and go back to making music...

    Short answer: No, not really.

Longer answer: No and sample rates and such has nothing to do with it.

I can see where this myth kind of can come from, let's say you record a session using a single make of microphone or mikes from a single manufacturer. Chances are they would have similar frequency response curves leading to a (slightly) skewed frequency response on the recording when all tracks are mixed together.

Effect is the opposite though, it would mean some frequencies get more cluttered faster than others.

So in theory, if a company uses a single kind of algorithm exclusively for all of their plugins a similar effect might be had. But if it did the effect would be so slight it would be inaudible.

Absolutely true. I don't understand why this should be a laughing matter. Your question is a valid one. We all hear different frequencies so the plugins I use for mixing music for me or my pals are different from the ones I use when mixing the playlist for my cats. And don't get me started on the huge mess when you receive some request from bats or whales...
