I remember a few years ago having to set my Ableton to always run as administrator so that I could actually be able to load some plugins (that I cant remember at this point) that would just crash Ableton otherwise.

Does anyone else still run as admin? Or has whatever caused that issue been resolved with all the new version updates at some point? I'd like to be able to drag-and-drop again but this copy and paste is still working so

 

Seems dangerous, there has to be an other way. Is the provided functionality really worth the risk?

 

it was some audioutopia releases that required that, new versions have been released of almost everything, so it'll depend on whether you need those few outliers still

 

On current-up-to-date Win10 and Win11 running an app as admin disables drag and drop (and some other features), so no, it's not worth it.

Generally true, but with an exception: you can drag and drop provided that both applications were run as admin. For example, you could run Q-Dir as admin and that drag from there anything onto another (run as admin) application.

Bad actors wasting your time. I doubt my house machine has anything anyone wants, but as time ticks forward I find that I begrudge anyone or anything that wants to waste it needlessly. I have backups and archives and I am glad for that when a hardware failure occurs, but I never want to see a message that says "We of Poopouzchy Alliance Encrypt your metal disk, give us the bitcons sic) or you will be the sorries(sic)."

I guess I am more suspicious than the average person.

 

Run as admin, no antivirus and a tinywall. If someone enters my computer please sort the mess.

 

I'm way behind on security and generally don't even know what apps are running with administrator rights.

 

Well, just to be clear...
There is little chance FL Studio or Ableton will lock your disk for ransom.
You just might not be able to drag-n-drop.

Other programs might be risky, if you download and install risky programs.
Being logged in as Admin does allows you to more easily fuck up your computer all on your own without any help from 3rd party software...but that's another story.

I think it's easier to fuck up your system trying to clean up user "Documents' folder. Because it is not really your folder. And that is why they changed the name from "My Documents" to "Documents". Because everyone else put their shit in there like it was some AppData folder. So they gave up the ass and now you don't have a folder of your own.
Better make one yourself. On another drive, if possible.
