    Hi guys,

Could someone help? I have a few tapes Digital8 and Video8 format with some audio recording. All I knew, is that it is the stereo tracks and both D8 and V8 were recorded on the same device about 15 or 20 years earlier.

My 1st thought was to read it on camcoder. But no sound is heard.

    Thanks for any advice...

This can be anything. Video8 also supported recording up to 6 independent stereo tracks, encoded as nonlinear and companded 12bit PCM audio (instead of video), as well as recording a stereo PCM track in addition to analog video and analog audio (!).

While the latter can be played back by more modern V8/Hi8 camcorders, the former (which might be your tapes) can only be played back by decks supporting the 6-track stereo PCM "MultiTrack" format. I have used these many years ago because the sound quality was better than any cassette machine and the tape material was shockingly cheap in comparison.

I used to own the EVS-650 and EVS-850 decks, both worked reliably as long as I decided to keep them.

(The six buttons on the right are for switching between one of the six audio tracks while playing)

In the days of online social media, it shouldn't be too hard to find someone who still owns one of these...

Thank you Fiction. That makes sense. I would try to find one of it.

Pipotron3000, you mean it does not read old V8 tapes? Yes, it was DCR-130, that does not read old tapes. At the moment I can not find another device to try it.
