It's all "smoke and mirrors", as they say!

Very legit point actually. Is it more identifiable then hardware summing?

Has one of us misunderstood the other, was my phrasing wrong?
I did not find any AA pluggie that added something special. I did not find anything obvious and I did not find anything that passed a double blindtest (apart from the two I mentioned).

You need an HD system. Your system isn't HD enough.

  5. I use El Rey quite often. Have you found nothing of note in their reproduction of SSL Fusion in Celestial?

Not as far as I remember. Do you recommend to try it again? Would be Big Ceil now, right?

  7. As a finishing tool in the same way as SSL Fusion claims, then Celestial is worth a demo. It is not at all related to Big Ceil. I guess if you think Fusion is a good all in one finaliser, then you might like it. Like the best AA stuff I find a little is enough. The philosophy of driving something like Taupe until the VU's are constantly in the red for that "true tape saturation" doesn't work for me.

? Celestial is no longer available separately. It's integrated into Big Ceil https://www.acustica-audio.com/store/products/ceil. Or do I miss something?

    In the main out???

Why not? Taupe's tape module is very subtle saturation and the various tape emulations are more about their compression characteristics than the sound of real tape distortions.

  10. I'm sure it was separate at release. And Taupe users are very fond of saying turn up the input and turn up the output. They're idiots. Damned AA cult members!!

First off my listening setup: Presonus Eris 8 XT monitors in an acustically treated living room with moderately expensive industrial sound dampening panels for large office ceilings.
    A. sounds like a typical DAW mastered track and it's the one with the least dynamic range to me.
    B. is more quiet than A. but it also is the least flavourful in all respects.
    C. I like more than A. and B. combined, more dynamic range and has a little bit clearer highs
    D. is my favourite it has the same clarity as C. possibly better but the dynamics are about the same but I hear a bit more punch from the drums.

However I would personally mix the whole track differently, lower the mids and add more volume and compression to the kick. I'm biased too though because I produce electronic music.

He was speaking of driving it really hot and that's 'not useful' in the mainout. On separate instruments is a different story.

    Yep, it was.

OK, I gave it another shot
    [IMG]

Then I tried to reproduce it with Reaper stock pluggies only and then with a combi of AA Scarlett, Ivory multiband compressor and a rather unknown multiband stereo enhancer (after I've RTFM [IMG] EDIT: of Celestial, ofc).

Now here's your challenge, which is which?
