    Hello all.

I am hopefully moving house in a few months, and I'm thinking of building my own desk if I can't find something that suits. I've checked a lot of YouTube videos about DIY audio workstations, but I am wondering if any of you know of any other resources or websites to get ideas, inspirations, plans, etc?

An ideal desk would have enough room for two medium/large screens, two medium sized monitors. The computer keyboard and mouse at a normal desktop height and the midi controller below in a sliding platform below. I use a 49 key midi controller at the moment. Most likely I won't upgrade to anything larger in the near future.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot, in advance.

    Regards.

    D.

Im thinking of doing the same thing.

I think the best approach is to model your dream desk.

Im planning on drawing mine in Inventor then generating part drawings and taking them to Homedepot and have them cut (maybe even drilled) for me.

Im thinking the desk should be 30" deep, 4 racks wide, 3u high bridge, have a sliding controller tray. Also thinking about sinking 4-5 BCF2000 and a BCR into the surface.

A free and simpler alternative to Inventor is SketchUp.

For me i printed off pictures of all my equipment. Sized appropriately, i.e. 1" = 1/4" once i had all this done. i took a large piece of cardboard and layed out my gear as i would like to have it in front of me. i initially based the table top size on a 10" x 4" piece of 1" hardwood plywood. then after laying out my gear i drew the footprint of the table. used an argosy console as inspiration. did the same with the support legs for the table. Filled in missing support structures with plywood. add wheels/casters on the table supports for mobility. add underneath shelf with drawer slides for keyboard. end result is about 300-400 dollars in material based on an oak based desk.

after the layout i actually taped pieces of cardboard together to make a full scale mock-up just to be sure it would be what i wanted.

Thanks guys. Good tips there. Ned, wow that's some dedication there. Any chance of having a peek at your finished product?

Need to clean out my garage and start on it! I have modified it a little since i did these pics. but not by much. also layed out some stands to hold my monitors.

Mate, maybe you could start a thread to see the progress. I'd love to follow that. Anyway, just an idea.
