This is my amateur attempt at covering Depeche Mode's "Never Let Me Down Again". I made it 10-12 years ago with a vocalist and really enjoyed making it. Thanks in advance for giving it a listen!

I don't like very much the vocals (not an easy task when the original singer is Dave Gahan) but the production has DM vibes and it sounds professional. Thanks for letting us hear it!

It sounds good but it's like a PiL version, due to the vocals.

Vocals are just fine and melodically on point, although your singer can't escape Gahan 's performance - at least for the verses and choruses - and comparison is imminent. But you shouldn't worry about it, after all, the hardest thing in a song cover is to devise how to deviate from the original melody and still sound good. The ad libs towards the end on top of Martin Gore's sung part are something new and welcome. Production is very good. Very good choice of sounds, the track's main arpeggiator works really well throughout the song. The chorus is very satisfying almost as DM's. Props for this one. Bass is lacking some bass but compared to the old DM track your sparse "round" bass is much more prominent so nothing bad here as well.
I didn't care for the intro much tbh. It's kinda very obvious what's gonna happen because the lyric hook gives it away. I'd like a bit of mystery, not knowing what comes after. Also your lush string pad "sucks" a lot of energy from the rest of the sounds underneath but perhaps this was intended? Overall i 'd give it an 8/10, you 've done a really good job man. More please!
    Cheers
PS: Talking about covers, I still remember No Doubt's rendition of Talk Talk's It's my Life. To this day i cannot fathom how they practically played the exact same thing but worse and had a major hit. Proves the listening crowd (especially in US) is totally manipulated by media. You google it's my life and you come up with "song by No Doubt". Fuck you Google. AI my fkin ass. Should stand for Assholes Incorporated. That album from Talk Talk is one of the most amazing sophisticated pop records of the 80s to my ears. Along with Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Welcome to the Pleasure Dome and Tears For Fears' Song From the Big Chair. But hey, don't mind me mumbling, old fart here you see haha.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about my song! :)

I wish I could say that I intended the string pad to do that, haha. But the truth is that I was/am just a hobbyist and I didn't know any better :).

P.S. I like Talk Talk's song "Talk Talk" AND "It's My Life". I was a retro DJ at one point and those were in rotation on my turntables most nights
