    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to install Kontakt for the first time on my MacBook with an M2 Pro chip, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by the number of different versions and installation methods available online.

I keep seeing versions like Kontakt 7.4, 7.5, 8, 8.2—some labeled as standalone, others as portable—and it's unclear which one is the most up-to-date, stable, and compatible with my system.

I'm looking for advice on the following:

    • What is the most recommended version of Kontakt for a Mac with an M3/M3 Pro chip?

    • What's the difference between standalone and portable versions?

    • What’s the best and cleanest way to install Kontakt?

    • How should libraries be added and managed properly?
If anyone with more experience could share some insights, that would be greatly appreciated. I believe this thread could also be a useful reference for others in a similar situation.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You should always get the newest version of Kontakt you can run on your machine and MacOS. Unless you see people rolling back the newest version for some reason. When you search on Audioz, the newest versions are almost always the top search result. NI constantly release new versions for new features, and to also make them the new "minimum version requirement" for using the newest shared libraries.

There are no "Portable versions" of Kontakt for Mac. Standalone Versions run outside your DAW as an Application, while the other options are plugin formats which will run inside your DAW.

The best way to install them is by following the instructions with whatever version you are downloading.

For Library management, there are two utilities you should get. The first is Add Library for MacOS. You can use it for quickly adding libraries which you already have an NICNT file for. The second is KLU (Kontakt Library Utility), and you can get that here: https://audiosex.pro/threads/klu-kontakt-library-utility-version-2.72857/

If you run into any permissions issues, use BatChmod or Permissions Reset 2, which you can find on Google.
